I have bad stats

Boston University

M1st3rmarbl3s:

UCB: Super Reach
UCSD: Reach
UCI/UCSB/UCD: Slight Reach
UCSC: Match

aww man... a slight reach??? what does that mean?

It isn't hard to look up average GPAs and SATs for any school. You are asking about many schools where your stats are far below average. So unless you're a recruited athlete (and even then it would be a stretch...) there is no way for most of these schools.

I dont get it. Why do some ppl get matches and why do i get a slight reach when they have the like 30 pts higher than me on SATs or even lower and only have like .2 in GPA higer than me. Are all the mean ppl responding to my thread?

Dude don't stress about getting in. I think that your stats are very respectable and I think they represent what is the norm of a UC bound student. Lets no forget the UC system was designed for students of California or for anyone that wants to further their education. I think you have an amazing chance if you are willing to put the work into your essays and make them stand out from every body else.

I wish you the best of luck.

i agree with daniel... although u shouldnt expect berkeley to come knocking...

Slam on the brakes. I am under the assumption that you have had some life changing obstacle that you can talk about in you Personal Statement. Try retaking them in December if possible and sore at least 620ish in all the sections you did so so in, believe me I have seen crazier things happened with UC applicants.

Try to stay positive about you chances. I know that you may feel you may not have a chance but stop closing doors and at least try.

Jesus Christ, so many of you are so intimidated by what you see and hear about students that have 4.40 with 2100 SAT scores at this forum. Half of the people that I know of on this site make stuff up just to make themselves look good to the cyber world and discourage other students because of their through the roof stats. Please don't ever doubt yourself. I have gone through some much and my life and it's like a dagger to my heart when I hear somebody say their life sucks when it doesn't and they have the ability to do amazing things with their life. I don't think not too many UC applicants have ever worked at their family store to help them with their expenses.

Prove all those suckers wrong.

why are u guys trying to be nice to this guy and M1st3rmarbl3s why are u accusing us of being mean to u, are u scared of the truth. no offense but ur sat and gpa are weak for most of the uc's. if i were u i would not even apply to berkeley or la cuz u wont get in. i am not applying to berkeley and i have higher stats than u. for those that said this guy has a great chance anywhere, that is useless. u are just getting his hopes high and then when he doesnt get accepted he will get all surprised and cry.

Let’s get something straight here, the individual probably doesn't have as many resources at his disposal to help in making his G.P.A. and SAT scores average of a Berkeley Student and he is doing the best with what he has.

The guy worked at his family’s store. Do you know how dangerous that is, my best friend died a year ago in store shooting. This kid is doing something not only for himself but for his family. Just because this guy thinks more about helping his family then his own future he shouldn't even apply. Are you ridicules?

I am getting so sick and tired of people saying you don't have a chance and closing doors on people's future. I don't think anyone has no experience as an admission officer and shouldn't be saying that he has no chance.

As far as the truth, what you said is true to a certain thin extent, but telling him he shouldn't apply. Have you lived his life, have you been there with him/her 24/7.Do you know what type of family life he has and what makes him unique and what he brings to a UC.

Maybe ask yourself these question and I bet you might have a change of heart about applying to Berkeley.

ok seriously.. this kid is going to get accepted to at least 2 of the UC's and he has a decent shot at BU... his/her stats are not bad

so from what ur saying, someone with a 1900 sat and 3.9 weighted should shoot for harvard, mit, princeton, stanford, yale, cal tech, etc... because they can bring alot to the university? if u think that then all i can say is "wow"

surfed_pipeline if your read his post he didn't mention anything about "harvard, mit, princeton, stanford, yale, cal tech." Those schools are in a league of their own in terms of selecting student and they won't get in just based on what they can bring to a university.

I am addressing the UCB comment you made and UC's in general.

Just make sure when you are making a point it has some validity to it. As oppose to your quick assumptions on someone's outlook and belief

wait till march comes and then we will ask this guy if he got into berkeley then we'll see who is talking.

DanielHagos,

UCB is very hard to get into. I'm assuming that the OP is a CA resident, but it is still hard. For me, UCB (EECS) is a greater reach that MIT.

thank u zogoto

thank you all for the feedback. I know it's a reach for me but i'm still going to try to apply to the reach schools. Hopefully I get into one of the listed schools because that's what really matters to me as of now. You guys have been helpful in both positive and negative ways.

man, CC is depressing...when people tell you the truth - whether you have a chance or not,but don't encourage. That is sad. Shame on you who do that.

hey flopsy... don't mean to be rude but mistermarbles stats are better than mine.... how is UCD a slight reach for him and, how is it a match for me?
