You are not an URM. If anything, Asians are ORMs, so don't expect too much of a boost there. However, your grades, curriculum and class rank are all good. Your ACT is a little bit low. Try to improve it, particularly your Science section.

I've always thought that Alexandre, but the fact is that, judging by the stats, Asians did have a notable URM-type edge in the last admissions pool. This defies what tends to be the case, I know, but it was unmistakeable in the last pool.

You definitely want to bring that science score up--seems that, with the Science Club participation and the A's in honors science, you've got lots of upward potential there.

Maybe Notre Dame is trying to increase its Asian student population.

So ddjones, are you ready for the September 15th showdown in Ann Arbor? Hopefully, the outcome will resemble last year's! hehe

Asians are URMs at ND, so that will be helpful. I definitely think you have a shot, the main thing I would work on at this point is getting higher test scores, because those are weighing you down right now. Other than that I think you look pretty solid.

Alexandre, I don't know that this year will be our year, but given the recruits we are beating Michigan for (with a Michigan guy, Corwin Brown, no less) I think the future looks bright. However, I do have some inside info for you. The last two years in the Navy ROTC football game the team that has won has had their school's team lose in the big game. Because of that, ND ROTC (being smart, as they are) is throwing the game. I am not sure what that will do with karma, but it could slant things in our direction.

okay, what ACT should I shoot for? Also, does UND require SAT 2s?

EDIT: sorry, one last thing. Lets say by some miracle I get in. Are the EE/business departments at ND good as far as getting recruited at top companies and such?

The average ACT is a 32, so I would at least shoot for that, but to be safe I would try for a 34. I know, these are insane numbers (trust me, I didn't have these scores when I applied back in the day, ND is just getting crazy, it doesn't say anything about you) but that is just what they are looking for nowadays.

I can't speak for EE, though I think they would do well. Business does insanely well though. Mendoza is one of the top business programs in the nation (I forget where we are in the current rankings but it usually is top 5) and the career center does a fantastic job getting recruiters to campus. There are also two major job fairs a year, so there are a lot of options. ND is also very tight with GE, and they hire a ton of ND graduates.

D Got in EA with 31 ACT keep grades and class rank up try to retake ACT and write a GREAT essay

Good advice about the essay and class rank. My son was rejected with a 32 ACT and a brother who currently attends ND, so assume nothing.

For the OP, your URM status will help, but work to get your ACT above 33. The competition at ND is such that every spot in the class of 2012 will have at least seven bright and earnest applicants.
