Has anyone ever gotten their AP scores substantiated by CollegeBoard (Meaning payed the extra $25 and having the MC rescored)? My scores are 2-3 points lower than I had expected them to be. If you have in fact gotten your exams rescored, was there any difference? I am suspecting a pencil/eraser error or something of the nature (I only took two exams, with the same pencil for MC and same erasable ink for the FRQs, on each exam), because these scores are extremely low for tests that I walked out of feeling as though I had nailed them. What do you guys think? Also, how can I get my FRQs back from CollegeBoard if my teachers had them the days after the exam (the green booklets). Thanks

well if your scores are that much worse than you thought then you might as well get them rescored. Did you use a number 2 pencil for the fill ins? You really have to be careful on scantrons because I know the machines at my school mess up all of the time.

But remember you may have made a different type of error(like accidentally filling in the wrong numbered ovals for some of the problems), in that case rescoring doesnt do anything for you.

I doubt he made that mistake on both tests. I suggest you get them rescored.

I really need help. I need my score for college. I took the AP US History exam. I was so confident. I studied my butt off for this test. I answered every free response carefully and thoroughly. I knew what I was talking about on every single one of them. My multiple choice was good, too. I did well on every single test during the school year and I got A’s every quarter. I did well in that class. My friend who took the exam the year before me received a 4. She says she B.S.ed one of the essays and she didn’t think she did excellently on the DBQ. I KNOW I did well! So, someone please TELL ME HOW I GOT A 1?! Please! I was crying! A student who receives a 1 basically did NOTHING on the test. So, I don’t know what to do because I called College Board’s AP office and they told me that they cant even re-score your essays and they can ONLY re-score your multiple choice for a fee of $25. I don’t think that is fair because they made the mistake. And, if they don’t re-score my essays, then it still may not show the 4 that I KNOW I got. Please give me advice. Or, does anyone know someone who actually scores the tests, or know how to score the tests? I will pay them to re-score my test.

myraven, call them to make sure that there was not a problem with your test- like missing sections. A few others on CC have noted that they had low scores, and when they called, there were missing sections or other problems. If you really feel that you did that well, ask for a rescore. $25 is worth the piece of mind.

Have you taken any AP tests prior to this year? The truth may be that you just had teh wrong perspective when gauging yourself.

HOWEVER, there is definitely a possibility that you filled in some wrong bubble on your answer sheet leading to improper grading. Or your MC and FRQ scores were never added. Or maybe the machine had a glitch.

If you expected it to be 3 points higher, I would get a rescore; seems like you knew what you were doing.

Did their score report say that they had missing parts? Or were they told that part of their test was missing by a representative at the AP office? Because I called and asked if possibly a part of my test was lost or something and the lady said (quite rudely, if I may add) that if it was lost then a note would be written on my score report saying so.

and sa,
the only problem with the machine having a glitch is COLLEGE BOARD WILL NEVER ADMIT IT. And its really frustrating. All I want is proof that my score is really isn’t higher than they say it should be… if it actually isn’t. Then I’ll shut up about it. But they wont give me any. (Besides mailing my test to me. But by the time they do that, it’ll be too late to complain about it if there is anything wrong with it.)
Question: If they say I received a 1, but I know I did not, wouldn’t there also be an issue with the essay scoring? Like is it possible that they accidentally put someone else’s score in place of my own? How could I prove that?

To anyone and everyone suspecting their score, this is the information pertinent to your situation:

-Getting your FRQ/DBQs back: The green insert with the questions is with your teacher, unless she gave it back to you. The actual questions are also on AP Central. If you want your PINK answer sheet back (where you wrote your actual essays), it is $7.00 per exam. You do NOT qualify for this if you took the exam late. Also, if you want your FRQ/DBQs from past years, you’re out of luck. Only for this exam year.

-Rescoring the exam: It is $25.00 and only the MC is re-scored, by hand. So if some dirty, rotten grader gave you 1, 1, 1, on your DBQ/2 FRQs for APUSH and you should’ve gotten 7, 7, 7,…you’re out of luck! 1,1,1 will always be the score recorded for those essays.

So, basically there is nothing I can do? I will have to keep my 1? So, I guess Hopkins is going to think my grades are phony when they see that score. Now I will never EVER trust College Board. I’m scared to take the SAT’s now.

myraven-Usually, if there is a mistake with the entering if scores, they will find it during the rescore.

Also (to anyone), your FRQ’s are read by more than one person and any huge disparities are checked by the chief grader. So generally there is little chance of a cranky reader ruining scores.

I understand that, sa. I am sure they graded it properly. What I am saying is maybe they accidentally used someone else’s score instead of my own. I’m telling you, something went wrong. I don’t know, but something did.

myraven, just don’t report your scores. They are not required to be considered for admission. You do not have to send official scores in, so why bother self-reporting them?

Okay, thank you everyone. Im going to request my essays be sent back to me and that my Multiple Choice be regraded. Ill let you know what happens. If this is the fault of AP Central, I’ll be sure to let you know.

Copperturtle,
I dont get it. Who is in denial?

I don’t want to be that guy…are you sure you didn’t deserve a one? You could’ve written the best essays since Shakespeare, but if you didn’t follow the rubric you won’t get a point. Sorry, but this sounds suspiciously a lot like ‘what! I’m too awesome to get a 1! Someone else must have screwed up.’

I’d say you should re-score. A 1 is extremely low–you can basically guess and BS your way to a 2. If she was frantic about getting a 3 or a 4 then it’s one thing, but generally people’s senses are somewhat accurate. Very rarely are there people who think they cracked the test but ended up with a 1.

I think you must have misbubbled at the start?

I got my AP Bio exam rescored last month because I had scored a 1. I usually scored ~80-90/100 on practice exams I took in class. I was sure I would score a 4, or at least a 3 since I worked my butt off all year long. Also, some slackers in my class got 2’s and 3’s on the exam (and they told me they drew on every page of the FRQs).

So, my “new” results came last Friday, and College Board says the score is accurate. That I got a 1. I think that’s BS. Maybe they’re being, and excuse my language, racist. (I don’t mean to touch any nerve out there, so I apologize if a made anyone mad.)

I am more than sure I knew at least 40% of the MC questions, and even though I guessed on like 20 of them, I have a gut feeling I answered at least 50 questions correctly. For the FRQs, I was confident I at least had earned 20/40 points.

Taking the data above into account and using the AP Pass calculator, my score would, at least, have been as follows: (50)(.9) + (20)(1.5) = 45 + 30 = 75.

1.) 0-57
2.) 58-68
3.) 69-80
4.) 81-94
3.) 95-150

That’s at least a 3 (without the curve)!

I have been very depressed since then. I don’t know what else to do about it; I already rescored.

I took the AP U.S. History exam in May. I am having the same problem as you right now, and I just looked at my scores half an hour ago. Did anything you try work? I don’t know what I did, but I know this can’t be right. I worked too hard to get a one…
