I talked to admissions in regards to the transfer provisional admission contract...

And as I understand, the majority of people got this as part of their contract:

Maintain Academic Performance
Maintain the grade point average and complete the courses and number of units you reported in your application and in any subsequent course updates. You must be in good standing at your last institution of attendance. Also, if you attended another UC campus in regular session prior to enrollment at UCLA, you must have been in good standing when you left that UC campus. Notify our office immediately of any withdrawals, incomplete grades, drop in academic performance [including any D and F grades], or other changes to your class schedule. [See Contacting UCLA section.]

So I asked admissions what they meant by "Maintain the grade point average" and the lady on the phone told me that all it meant was to not get any D's or F's and if it were the case that if one were to get any that they'd have to report them immediately and their application would be re-evaluated.

I told her that I thought I was going to get a "C" (which I really I don't think I am) and that I thought it would drop my GPA (a B in one of my classes might slighlty though) and she told me that it would be fine as long as I didn't get any F's or D's.

So yeah, everyone do your best and don't stress out too much. You guys can call admissions at 1-310-825-3101 to verify this.

I think many people get confused by the “must maintain a 3.0 average” thing. I’m guessing we can possibly afford to get a C in one class if we just maintain an overall GPA of 3.0 right?

It’s strange cause UCI just sent me a provisional contract stating that I MUST get a B or higher in my math class that I am currently taking. I find it awkward that they would rescind my admissions if I get a C in it. I would understand if it was an impacted major at UCLA or something…

Have you taken a transferable math class before?

I think it’s mandatory that one gets a B or higher in a transferable math course to satisfy the quantitative reasoning (or whatever it’s called) requirement. So yeah, get a B! And best of luck.

I think many people get confused by the “must maintain a 3.0 average” thing.

Well, that doesn’t seem confusing to me but what did trip me out was “Maintain the grade point average”. I mean verbatim it is not confusing but it seemed like a serious standard to me.

thank you for sharing this info, what if I file the course to pass no pass and not get pass?

That is a relief to hear…thanks for calling them up! I have enough stress over midterms this week, but you’ve helped put my mind @ ease.

steamboy 25, I got the same thing. I have to get a B in math or my asss is grass. Pretty ghey considering I’ll be maintaining A’s in my other classes and will be well above that 3.0. Ah well, back to studying. Good luck, man.

*thank you for sharing this info, what if I file the course to pass no pass and not get pass? *

Is it explicitly stated that you need to pass that certain course with a B or better in your contract? Is it a course pre-requisite or IGETC?

If it is neither of those, get a pass for the class. If you don’t pass, it will probably be a bad thing. But if you can withdraw and you know you’re not going to pass or fail, then withdraw.

You’ll have to let them know if you withdraw, fail, or don’t pass.

@Tiberius
Do we need to get a B in all transferable math course? or Do we need at least ONE to satisfy requirement? For example, I got a B in calc 1, but I am currently taking calc two and might get a C. If that B in calc one satisfies that math requirement, then I guess a C would be fine for my CALC 2 course??? right?

Provisions for Admission
Because your admission has been based on the information you reported in your University of California application and/or by written/verbal communication with our office, we expect that you will do the following.

*

Maintain Academic Performance

Maintain the grade point average and complete the courses and number of units you reported in your application and in any subsequent course updates. You must be in good standing at your last institution of attendance. Also, if you attended another UC campus in regular session prior to enrollment at UCLA, you must have been in good standing when you left that UC campus. Notify our office immediately of any withdrawals, incomplete grades, drop in academic performance [including any D and F grades], or other changes to your class schedule. [See Contacting UCLA section.]

*

Complete Coursework Requirements

Complete the following course pattern with C grades or better: two [2] transferable courses in English composition; one [1] transferable course in mathematical concepts and quantitative reasoning; four [4] transferable courses in at least two of the following subject areas: arts and humanities, social and behavioral sciences, physical and biological sciences by June 2009.

For me my only worry is passing that one Quantitative Reasoning math class with a C.
I’m an English major.

I’d probably go crazy if I knew I had to get at least a B.

^ ^
Huh, I wonder why it’s different for you.

I think it’s cause it’s not a major pre-req? is this contract unusual? it seems a lot of people have to maintain higher GPAs… or course specific grades… and it says C grades or better, I wonder if I get a C - though it doesn’t show on the transcript (we dont have plus or minus at my CC) if it would matter.

Ooooh, I see. Heh, we don’t have plus or minus at my CC either.

Well mine says:

You must complete a minimum of 90.00 transferable quarter (60.00 semester) units with a grade point average of 3.30.

You must complete the following course(s) with a grade of B or better:
All units/courses enrolled in Spring.
You must complete College Algebra in Spring with a B or
better.

lol good luck to you to din0rawr. I am currently getting a B in my math class, which is not the required transferable math class. I already took that one a year ago.

I think I’m just annoyed by this contract because I have over a 3.5 gpa so I don’t know why I would get kicked out just because of one C. Feels wrong to get kicked out if a disaster happens and I actually end up with a C, which is a passing grade… Well, what can we do? Just gotta work our asses off lol.

You gotta 3.5 too? Dude, high five.

Ch-yah. I don’t see why you would get the boot over a C with a gpa like that. But yezzz… -.- back to the books. Man I can’t wait till summer. I need a brew, a beach, and a long ass nap.

you see this not on URSA but where you were admitted right dino? after the congrats page?

thats so weird! I wonder why we have to maintain different GPAs… hm.

this kinda sucks if you think about it, its like worry about getting in! then worry about keeping your admit, then worry about getting classes, worry about housing, worry about new social life, worry about graduating, etc etc etc… but c’est la vie.

Yeah, not on URSA but the admission contract page.

Lol. Amen, dude. You pretty much summed up the story of my damn life.

Please everybody stop panicking! This topic has been gone over in literally at least 5 other threads! Steamboy if you get a C this semester you will not get your acceptance rescinded! You can get Cs this semester as long as your gpa is at least a 2.0 this semester and as long as your overall gpa from all 4 semesters is 3.0. Seriously RELAX!

My provisonal contract is being much pressure on me… T.T
