So I just now realized that maybe my Calgrant didn't show up on my financial aid summary thing on eFAN.

I never received a CAR (California Aid Report) and I didn't know anything about it, so I couldn't update them on the school I was choosing to attend and my graduation status. The Calgrant never showed up on my eFAN - I thought it was included in the Scholarship Recognition award - is the Calgrant supposed to show up as its own category on eFAN? If yes, then what should I do to get my Calgrant now that I have updated my CAR, which says it's awarding me a bunch of money?

Also, I have already applied for loans and stuff, will I need to cancel these and have UCLA calculate a new financial aid package?

I’m in the exact same boat as you. I thought the scholarship recognition award included calgrant, but when I went on the calgrant site last week to input my graduation verification, I saw that they had me attending Berkeley instead of UCLA. I called the financial aid office and they said that they update their calgrant info at the beginning of every month. So I’ll check back at the beginning of september and see if my financial aid award has been fixed.

I feel your pain. Keep me updated on your situation, yeah?

if you see yourself getting 12,000+ (whatever it was) into some category, that is your calgrant. ucla is funding the calgrant themselves, so they get lazy and not annotate the award as “cal grant”

@Shazeline: have you heard back yet?? I just emailed them again today, they still haven’t replied. I’ll call them too if they don’t respond in a few days. I’ve already signed up for loans and stuff b/c I’m going with my current plan - I wonder, do they give you a new award summary and you cancel all the loans and stuff?

@dragnslays: Based on what I’ve seen, the “Scholarship Recognition Award” is something completely different, and none of the descriptions I’ve seen of it mention the Cal Grant.

did you get cal grant a? because if you see 12,000 anywhere in your fin aid, thats your calgrant. my friend had an efan like yours too " no calgrant was in there." but it was actually already in there because obviously when hes awarded in 22k gift aid, adding a calgrant in there just means he has 34k in gift aid which is overawarding him. If you dont thinkyou have a calgrant in your efan, that means you probably have maximum of a pellgrant+ scholarship rec award which comes out to be around 10k.

is your aid award past 15k? if it is , then most likely your calgrants in there already. my friend never had to do anything with the calgrant site.

Alright shazeline please let me know how that goes : )?

And @dragnslays, I think the calgrant site just chooses one of your colleges, and if that’s not right you have to change it. UCLA never had any info regarding my Cal Grant because Cal Grant thought I was going to Stanford, soo… And also, 16k (current) + 12k (Cal Grant) is still under the 32k or w/e it is.

so is your pellgrant 5.5k and scholarship rec award 4.7k and an outside, private scholarship to total that to 16k? if so, then i understand why you are worrying about not having a cal grant appear on there.

Sorry! I completely forgot to update you on what happened. So my scholarship rec award was about 16k and my calgrant was about 12k, but my calgrant didn’t show up on efan as i mentioned earlier. I was able to talk to them on the phone, and the lady said that they download new calgrant info on the 1st of each month. When they process mine, they will input the 12k calgrant and lower my scholarship rec award to 4k. This is good because calgrant (for me at least) is 4-year renewable, whereas scholarship rec was just 1 year.

That being said, they still haven’t fixed my efan -_-
