I think FAFSA lost my application?

So I submitted my FAFSA way back in November–I thought I was being really proactive in not waiting until the last minute. Now it’s the end of February, the deadline for my school is next week, and I still haven’t received my SAR or anything back yet. I just called customer service and they said they don’t see anything for the 2017-2018 school year, which doesn’t make sense because not only did I submit it but I also have a confirmation email dated November 15th, 2016 for the application. I don’t know what to do now, if I start it over again will that mean I won’t get as much aid as I would’ve gotten had it been submitted earlier? I spoke to three different reps and they all said “oh we’ve never seen anything like this before”. I’m freaking out!!!

Check very carefully and make sure you submitted the 2017-2018 FAFSA.

You can go back into the FAFSA site…and resubmit.

You should have gotten your SAR almost immediately.

Did you include the right school codes?

Did you submit the 2017-18 form or the 2016 one back in NOv.?

You receive the SAR almost immediately (is that what you got? Did it have an EFC on it? Did you list the schools you wanted to receive it (the codes)?

If FAFSA says they don’t have it, and that Nov confirmation can’t be traced, get it in ASAP.

Yeah it was definitely the 17-18 one, the confirmation says so. I included the right school and everything, I renewed the same info from the 16-17 FAFSA. The only thing I got from them was the email.

It’s even weirder because my mom received something in the mail to sign for the FAFSA too. Like the signature that I’m supposed to sign? I signed it and sent it to them in January, could that be why it’s taking so long?

Yeah, I guess I’ll just start over, very annoyng though because I needed that extra money. Thank you!

It was definitely the 17-18 one. That’s just the thing! When I go to the site nothing’s there! It just vanished, even though I KNOW I did it. I went to my financial aid office and they said that even making a typo can cause it to dissapear though?? Which I don’t think I did because I repopulated the information from the 16-17 application, and that obviously worked last year. And it was the right school code because of that too. Maybe I just should’ve started a new one from scratch instead of renewing the old one?

YOU signed for your mom?? Please explain!!

If your mom is a U.S. citizen with a social security number…why didn’t she sign electronically??

When you sign in with your FSA ID do you see the FAFSA from last year? 2016/17?
Did your mom have to send in a signature page last year too? Was there a delay as well?

Is your mom required to send in a signature page? This would be needed if she is not a citizen, and doesn’t have a SS number.

@kelsmom, do you have any advice?

what might have happened is that you thought you submitted it, but really was just ‘saved’ (perhaps the signature didn’t take or something else was unfinished).

an unsubmitted fafsa gets deleted after 45 days.

I have never heard of a FAFSA disappearing, so I can’t offer any ideas about that. Here is what I suggest: Complete a 2017-2018 FAFSA NOW … make sure your mom has a valid FSA ID so that she can sign it right away (having to do a signature page is not recommended - I would suggest avoiding it unless there is no way around it - like having undocumented parents). Submit it. Make sure your SAR shows that it is processed, has an EFC listed (not blank next to the EFC), and has the school listed. Follow up with the school about 4 days later to see if they got it (if not, call again a few days later).
