I am a highly motivted individual. I push myself as hard as I can and do many extraciricular activies. I want west point next year with an infantry oriented degree. i really want to serve my counrty as an army officer, and believe that west point is the best place for me to become that. I have good leadership skills and proformed well academically in highschool. I am planning to take a year off from school to travel abroad, help foreign counrties, apply West Point, and find myself.

I really want to go to west point since I was 12 years old. I will do what ever it takes to prove that I have what it takes to make it as an Army officer and through west point.

Thank you for your time and support,
God Bless america!!!!!!!!!

act is low and sat math is really low

I wouldn’t say “really low” but it will be a weakness in your app. my son got in with both those scores after a year of civil prep. I would work on getting them higher. If your graduation is this year then you need to be taking both the ACT and SAT again and again. Not really sure how WP looks upon taking a year off to “find ones self”

Honestly, your application looked similar to mine last year. I had low ACT, 3.8GPA at a high ranked high school, in many activities, prom king, JROTC, and had two noms. I was not accepted.

I applied again this year in a higher ranked University in Minnesota. Still low ACT, 3.4GPA, VP of Finance, 4 yr ROTC scholarship, Rangers, 3 nominations, a 4 star General Call into WP to influence if I would get in, and work as a head cook in a restaurant. I still was not accepted.

It’s tough and has been a a real challenge for me. It came down to my ACT and I was called by a WP rep and told I would not be accepted because of my low scores. If you can get your scores up than you have a slim chance.

Is your SAT composite 1910 or 2010? Perhaps one of your subscores is mistyped here?

Keep in mind, only Admissions can give you a realistic opinion regarding your candidacy. Others are right. Prep well and keep taking the exams to increase your score and improve your profile. Get in touch with your MALO to find out what else you could be doing in the next few months. Get your application in and then do all you can to update it.

Best of luck to you.

First off thanks for the great responses
Secondly I am sorry for the serious typo’s in my previous post. I had a drill competition all day, followed by a long night of red bull and halo. The mistakes in my profile are as follows:
Act-25
Sat Math-670
and I do not wish to take a year off to find myself (that was a bitterly poor attempt at sarcasm) but rather to travel abroad and increase the strength of my resume but helping out in third world cournties. And perhaps to take a little time to “party it up” in Europe.
I think these changes should bring me in to range of acceptable, I must have sounded like a very weak canadite despite my outstandign extra ciricular activities.

Addtitionally I have noticed that people seem to be in the habit of showing the AP classes they are in. I am in AP Physics, Chemestry, English IV, Calculus BC and European History. And Last year I was in AP English III, Calculus AB, and American History, I recieved 2s in all of them execpt for Calculus in which I got a 1.

I am afraid my AP scores may weaken my other wise great academics. Will USMA or the United States Military Academy at West Point (when I was first researching this I thought they were two diffrent schools, and had no idea what USMA was. This may be a bit like telling Newton about gravity, but essentailly I am trying to dispell confusion amoung new readers) look at my less that great AP scores negatively? My reason for scoring so low is that I missed 46 of school last year (all but 7 excused) because of my overwhelming extra ciriculars.

“My reason for scoring so low is that I missed 46 of school last year (all but 7 excused) because of my overwhelming extra ciriculars.”

USMA wants to see time management skills that allow you to balance both academics and leadership/sport.
Good luck!

I cannot imagine a situation where a high school would condone 46 missed days of school for extra curriculars. School is the priority; academics are crucial. Good grades/good SAT/ACT and a fairly rigorous schedule will be viewed favorably. My son only took two AP classes (the same for another cadet I am well-acquainted with). Neither even took the AP test at the end of the year, as they knew they’d take a placement test at WP. However, their grades, SATs, and attendance were very good. While they both had decent ECs, neither of them were involved in a ton of activities. WP looks at quality over quantity…they don’t want a last-minute padded resume. Choose wisely, excel at what you choose, and go to class. =)

what are your act subscores. they dont care about composites.

“I must have sounded like a very weak canadite despite my outstandign extra ciricular activities.”

Please for your own sake work on your spelling, at least for the application… And try to sound a little more humble… Confidence is good, but you come off almost a little arrogant in your posts here. Not saying this is intentional, but just try to read what you write carefully before you submit it…

Not trying to rain on your parade, just trying to give some honest thoughts. Sorry if I’m out of line.
