OK, so I have a filter that sends all messages with "college" or "university" in the subject to my email trash because my inbox was clogging up... I just emptied my trash a few days ago and it just occurred to me that I might have deleted an interview offer from a Bowdoin alum... will they contact me by mail, by phone, or again? I have no way of getting the trash back...

I suggest you contact Bowdoin and ask them. They tend to be forgiving.

And trashing all of the emails with those words in them is obviously not very smart once you have actually started the application process.

Pick up the telephone.

Call the alum, or Bowdoin if the people there are in charge of the schedule.

Tell them this little tale of email tragedy.

They will help you re-schedule.

You won't be the only one who has had this same problem this week.

Epic fail.

Epic fail

hurrrrrrrrrr

Thanks for the actual advice guys, I'll just email them if I don't hear in another week (I just requested the interview last friday).

In the future, archive them instead of deleting them. I have not deleted any non-spam messages since I made my gmail account a few years ago, and it has helped a number of times to dig up an ancient message.

^I agree, it helps so much, especially since gmail the built in search feature that is so powerful.
