I think I know why it's taking so long...

Well... for me at least, and more specifically this actually regards OOS transcript issues and so if you're going through something similar, it would be great if you could weigh in:

Anyways, I know you guys are probably tired of hearing this but I have unfortunately still not received *anything/I from all 7 UC's I've applied for (UCB, UCLA [which are understandable] - but then there's also UCD, UCI, UCSC, UCSD, UCSB). And I figure that if I'm still waiting for the "lower-tier" UCs at this point, then I most likely have to wait it out 'till the very bitter end. (May 1st)

I remember I went to a community college outside of CA [Utah] right after high school and I bombed it pretty bad. Basically, I got like two solid F's on the first semester [some 'holistic' US history class that apparently isn't offered anywhere else and a generic intro to sociology] because I was too much of a confused, juvenile idiot to bother dropping or even withdrawing it.

Fast-forward about 3 years later and I finally began applying myself to school - got much, much better grades, became an Honors'-recipient, blah blah blah, etc. - and eventually ended up with the 3.82 GPA [that is, if the admissions deans do not include the OOS grades] I have now.

The grades I got from there haunted me for the first year when I got to California, but the counselor said there's nothing to worry about. But then again, community college counselors in my experience have always been rather inept in warning you of any potential icebergs up ahead.

So I initially planned on not mentioning the out-of-state transcript when applications rolled around last year. (Which I found out from these forums, is a huge, gaping 'no-no') But while working on the application, I found out that I had to mention every single institute I have been to - regardless of whether or not it will obliterate your transferable GPA.

Anyways, getting straight to the point here - I mentioned that school I went to where I bombed my transcript but I did not mention my grades because it was the deadline day of the filing period and I had no access to my grades because my login account for that school expired (I mean, it's been more than 3 years so...).

During filing period I tried to get academic renewal from there but they (the reps) said I have to wait not only 5 years but here's the kick, I have to take at least 12 units there. Having possession of a California residency - they suggested that I go back to Utah to take at least 12 miserable, overpriced quarter units after taking 2 years of upper-division courses at a hypothetical 4-year university. Just sheer madness.

So then I began the quest to write the perfect personal statement that would grant me absolution of some sort without lying that I gave away a kidney or some other distasteful fabrication.

So my question is, do you think the grades will actually count? (The answer in the back of my mind is yes but I wanna know you guys think) I have tried to arm-wrestle an answer out of the admissions offices of all 7 schools (including UCOP or UCAP) for the past 4-5 months and have gotten no luck with them. They either told me to just wait or call someone else (whom also tell me to call them).

just pray they aren’t transferable. You said that you didn’t report your grades but they’re going to need to see them eventually. Even if you get accepted, when you send in your transcripts you’re going to have to send transcripts from that OOS school because you listed it on your application. They might rescind you for not mentioning those F’s when they see them on the transcripts…

why cant you just not mention it on the application? Im just curious but how will they know?

they just know…probably search all these databases or something…and then if they find out, they will blacklist you, meaning that you cannot apply to UCs for like 3 years

It’s best to just be totally honest…

as for OP, eventually you’ll have to get the transcipts anyway…

saame situation for me, without the Fs, but one d. the UCs are way lenient. If you retook the course that is similar in content and text ( in the description) they will replace the course grade with the new grade and calculate it with JUST the new grade when figuring your gpa. Yes it can be done at another school and yes this is certainly the case with berkeley. It was pre approved for me (since i am in the tap program) and because I am oos i didnt wanna pay 600 dollars for another course if I wasnt sure it would replace the D. U needed to put the details about it in the additional comments box.

Oh, regarding your responses thus far - just realized I forgot one very important detail. I actually did reach some kind of resolution after calling and emailing them a buncha times after I turned in my app in November and they eventually told me that I should just cut the **** and send them unofficial transcripts so they could take a nice good look at it. So I did, about a month ago.

Well it sucks, quite frankly, but what can I say - I got no choice. And the thing is, the reason I can’t take courses that will replace them is that I’m like nearing the max of 70 semester units right now (pretty much done with IGETC). And the course layout over in that OOS CC is like well, different. For example, they only offer like one US history class that supposedly covers like everything while over in SoCal, most CCs divide US history into two separate courses and I’ve unfortunately only taken one US history course. =/

And I tried to take the Intro Soc. class like during an intercession period of Spring (4 weeks) while working full-time and eventually got really sick by the 2nd week. So I had to drop it. Can’t add Soc now because I’m taking at least 17 units.

So yeah, I guess I kinda am between a rock and a hard place.

“that I gave away a kidney or some other distasteful fabrication” LOL! My boyfriend actually wrote that on his app to UCSD years ago but he did actually give me his kidney. ;)

I wish you luck! I think with your current good grades it won’t matter much as it shows you’ve grown and changed. But I’m by no means an expert on this subject.

Wow…LOL.

I wish you the best of luck, must be tough. We’re all waiting. >__<;; Don’t stress, you’vr proved that you’ve changed your ways and gotten much better at your work. I’m sure they’ll see that…!
