I think I like Reed!

I just visited the site and read a few pages! I like it! I think I will apply to Reed! Just wondering what are the pros/cons of Reed College? :)

I will probably apply for the Engg discipline ;)

i like reed too =)

-no grade inflation (but don't worry about grad school, they know this)
-full of hard working students
-costly
-few or no jocks
-no frats or sororities
-a high percentage of students go on to get PhDs
-very liberal
-the class of 2011 is friendly (from what i saw on facebook)

Pros:

-Hard working students
-Quirky
-Few Graduate students (very few)
-Small class sizes
-Discussion based classes (!)

Cons:
-Known for marijuana on campus

If you want to get to know some students, ask them a few questions, etc., I would suggest using facebook or myspace.

I've talked to around 3 Reed students, and they all gave positive answers about my questions regarding the school.

I think I will apply ED II :) Reed is wonderful!

The only problem is aid. I think I will be needing almost full tuition ride. And since I am an international student that is going to be very difficult but then who knows ;)

biggest con--there are no atheltics at Reed.

From http://web.reed.edu/sports_center/sports_club_list.html:

Reed offers five varsity club sports: women's and men's Rugby, coed soccer, ultimate frisbee, men's basketball, and squash.

The rugby teams compete in the Pacific Northwest Rugby Football Union. Our men's and women's teams have competed in regional championships finishing as high as second place. The soccer team competes in the Greater Portland Soccer District League. Games are played every Sunday in the fall. The squash team competes in the Portland Squash League. The Portland Squash league is open to all age groups and many of the teams we compete against have Reed alumni playing for them. Finally, the basketball team competes as an independent. We play other local Northwest small college teams. And ultimate frisbee, our newest addition to out club sports, primarily plays collegiate ulitmate tournaments around Oregon and Washington.

vossron is right, I meant to say competitive division III teams, other than club.

If you mean "English" discipline, you're in luck. Reed has that major.

But if you mean you want to major in ENGINEERING, Reed does not offer that discipline. They do have some agreements with engineering schools where you do a certain number of years at Reed and then complete your engineering degree elsewhere, but that is very different than attending a school that has an engineering department.
