I think I made a mistake on my FAFSA?

I'm pretty sure I didn't...I glanced everything over afterward and completed it slowly, but my EFC was about 42k when last year it was around 20kish. (as far as I remember) The college I attend left my family with 18k to pay up which they barely were able to pay, and were hoping for a little extra help this year, but now I'm scared out of my mind.

How is this possible with no ridiculous salary increase last year or increase in assets?

And I don't see how to amend my FAFSA. It says it is being processed...

Btw my parents on paper do make a nice amount of money combined, but due to certain circumstances, we basically live check to check right now. (and we kind of have for a long while now)

Once your fafsa is done processing you can go back in and check it and make corrections if needed. I believe it can take 2 weeks or so.

It should not be more than 3 days for the FAFSA to process. Keep checking and when you have the option to make corrections at the bottom you should be good to go. Once you process your first one the corrections should process in a day.

This sounds like an increase that could be attributed to nothing other than a sibling. If you have a sibling in college as well, your efc will be cut in half. If he/she graduates, your efc returns to its initial amount. In your case, this would explain the unexpected double.

I do have a sibling in college, but she still is in college. I’ll look over everything and make sure I put her down as attending (which I’m pretty sure I did).

I apparently said 1 person in my family will be attending college and forgot to count myself.

It cut in half. Thank goodness.
