I was visiting a college recently and they don't use the common app so I filled out their application on while on the tour because there was a fee waiver for visitors of that day. I just realized that I accidentally wrote down the address of my father's house. I live with my mom (my parents are divorced) and will be applying for financial aid from her house. Will it be a problem if on that application my address is from my Dad's house, but on the FAFSA form the address is different?

additional info: The college doesn't review the applications until October, so if I had to I suppose I could fax the admissions office a different address as embarrassing as that would be.

People do make mistakes on their applications. DS put a different SS number on his application than on the FAFSA and that DID cause a ruckus. Call the admissions office and tell them you listed your dad’s address rather than your primary residence which is with your mom. They will tell you how to correct this mistake.

thumper is right.

But, do be prepared to demonstrate for FA purposes that you live with your mom. The change in address may be a red flag to them that you’re falsely trying to claim that you’re living with the lower income parent for FA reasons.

I hate to be a cynic, but agree with mom2…Keep it simple going forward so you aren’t doing a ton of explaining later and back pedaling later. If you live with your mom more days than your dad you live with your mom as it will be important for college documents, finaid, etc. It needs to pass the smell test. It’s probably not a big deal but fix it on this app and then be consistent going forward.
