I read from the SAT website that you cannot take SAT and SAT II on the same day, and I was focused on taking it on the 26th of January---which means, that I can only take the SAT test, and would not have any SAT II for my stats.

In no way can I take the SAT by Dec.1, I have not yet received my review materials. Is there any other date aside from the 26th of January that is offered? (I mean I take the SAT on January X and SAT II on January XX)

By the way, I am an international SAT taker. Any help or input about this is highly appreciated.

Oh my. If only reviewing was as easy as eating cheerios with milk. Sigh. Not yet prepared for vocabulary, not even for the Math part. Should I cram for the December? Or just not take the SAT II?

I mean, if I cram is there still a possibility of getting a competitive and decent score—in the 2200 range?

You’ve got 3 weeks; that’s enough time to study, not cram. If 3 weeks isn’t enough time to get ready for the SAT I, you’d going to be hard-pressed to study for 2-3 subject tests and the SAT I in 12.

@allyphoe, so you mean to say I can still take the SAT I and SAT II on January? I thought that isn’t the case: there is only 1 test date for January? Isn’t it? That’s where I am contemplating, I’m not sure if I can still take both if I don’t push the SAT I for December. Is SAT II important?

There’s only one test date in January; you can only take one of the SAT, or subject tests.

Also, it seems like the deadline for SAT registration for international students has already passed (Nov. 1), so you’re out of luck for the December SAT.

No, I meant that if you planned to take 4 tests at the end of January, the amount of time you left yourself to study for each is about the same as the 3 weeks between now and the first of December. So study for the SAT I first, using all 3 weeks, then use the remaining 9 weeks to study for the remaining 3 tests.

Some schools care about the SAT II; some don’t.

@allyphoe I get it then. But, what would its use be—when I can only take SAT I or SAT II on January?

I think I can still sign up for SAT I on December, but it has higher charges(amounted to $77) . But, I’m still thinking, I have’t gotten my hands yet on the reviewers, and I still have to work alot for the Math section, and perhaps vocabulary. What should I do? Does SAT II matter very much for Ivy and Ivy-like schools?

Honestly, it is late in the game to be looking at Ivy League schools and neither to have any standardized testing finished nor to be familiar with any particular school’s testing requirements.

Have you thought about taking an extra year to get everything in order? I agree with rspence, “There is no late registration for international testing” means that you can’t just pay the $27 late registration fee and get December 1 testing.

Should I take a gap year? Taking a gap year is not usual here in Southeast Asia, the usual thing here is that students graduate from college early. I need to take a deep breath first. Whew. Sigh. Help me think about it.

OK, assuming you apply this season, what’s your plan? Which schools, by which deadlines? What do you need to be doing now in order to be done by then? What’s your backup plan if you can’t get the testing you need by those deadlines? What are your test scores realistically likely to look like (take a sample test)? Do you have schools on the list that will take you (and you’d take them) for each likely level of test scores in conjunction with the rest of your application? What do you plan to do if no schools you’d be able to attend accepts you?

For the gap year scenario, all those same questions, plus “What else are you going to do with the year?”

I personally would discourage you from answering those questions on CC, because it’s the thought process, not the answers, that have the most value - and none of us can see your thought process, so can only comment on the answers.

I was hoping for a fall 2013 transfer. Well, I’m just starting on the long process. Perhaps, I’ll take the gap year to finish all of this. I will update you as soon as possible.
