I think I ruined my freshman year because of my not good gpa

I'm a freshman right now at one of liberal arts colleges and I got 3.05 gpa for the
first semester because my grades were like
Intro English : B+
Journalsim: B+
Spanish 1 : B+
Calculus 2: C+

I know that B+ is not a best grade but taking calc 2 was a huge mistake because it lowered my gpa and I felt terrible after my first semster because of that grade from calc 2 class.
Now I have a month left until the end of freshman year and I think I will get about 3.5 (hopefully) for this semester.
I still don't like this gpa and I think I runied my whole freshman year because my overall freshman gpa would not be above 3.5
All of my friends look like they will get 3.7 or above for freshman years which really puts me down and makes me depressed.
I feel like I'm really stupid so I cannot stand myslef.
If I had studied more and better, I would have better grades.
I really hate myself and all the bad thoughts don't seem to go away...
One of my goals are going to medical school and now I feel like my changes of getting into medical school got lowered.
How would I get better grades for next 3 years if I have not during my freshman year?
I have no confidence at all.
Any feedback would be good.

A 3.5 isn’t too terrible and you still have 3 years to pull your GPA up. If possible, take some classes over the summer. This will allow you to focus on one or two classes, so you can aim for an A, which would raise your GPA. At the same time, it would allow you to take less units during the school year. This means you can focus more on these classes, earn an A, and raise your GPA.

Make a plan for next school year. When you make your class schedule, also make library study time. Map out 6 hours during the week where you will be in the library without facebook and phone.

You also still might have time this semester. Go to office hours and talk to your professors.

Oh, please. You probably experienced grade inflation during high school, so now you are getting accurate, real grades. Not everyone can be great at everything, and if Calc 2 gave you a run for your money, so be it. Look at the bigger picture, and focus on doing your absolute best; that’s all you can really ask of yourself. A 3.5 for freshman year isn’t so bad; maybe your friends had easier courses than you, or courses they already had a really strong background in. Keep working hard, and each year your gpa will creep up. You may take a course in something, fall in love with the subject, and decide to pursue that instead of medicine anyway…you never know really. Freshman year of college also brings a lot of adjustments, and everyone handles those differently. Some get sad or sick or anxious or stressed, or involved in too many things. Did you work? Did you join clubs? I had friends with much better grades than me during college, but they also didn’t work and didn’t really do anything but study. I built a resume and got a lot of experience, which to me, counted for more than just some grade. You’ll be fine, so cut yourself a break! Congrats on doing very well during your first year!

Nothing wrong with being a B student. I was (at a non-elite state university no less) and I turned out fine (actually I’ve had far more success in life than most A students I know).

My strong suggestion is to talk to one of your school counselors about your situation. They’ve been through this thousands of times and should be able to give you some good advice.
