Ok. I live in Canada right now. And I'm a sophmore.

I have the option of staying here for the rest of high school, or moving to the United States (Tenn.) and finishing High school there and getting into a U.S. college. I would much rather prefer that, but I dunno, this website makes me feel like there would be a bit too much competition and I don't have the best of grades right now. What do YOU think I should do?

Ah, and I'm trying to get my mum to send me for a semester to see how I like it before making anything permanent.

I live in TN currently. It depends where you move to and the school you attend.
FYI, this website represents probably .001% of American high schoolers, so don't worry about it.

I decided I'm moving to Toronto as soon as I graduate college since investment banking analysts there get paid twice as much as the ones in New York. And if global warming melts all the icebergs, NYC will be the first city to go underwater. cries what a waste of a GREAT city...:(

Yes, snoopyiscool is right. We're not normal, and no, not all high school kids are like us. Heck, no... If that were the case, we would so be kicking China's butt.

Well, think. How much do you want to attend a U.S. college? What U.S. college would you like to attend? Why? What would you like or not like about moving out of Canada? You can take it from there.

If you're planning on going to a US college then you should probably come here to establish residancy HOWEVER if you are considering going to a Candaian college just stay there...and like previously stated a lot of people on CC arent in the norm for what to expect...it just depends on how hard you're willing to work

Just go to TN and see how you like it if you know for sure you will be able to go back because if you're not able to go back if you end up not liking it you'll regret changing schools. Also, don't worry about this website because you cant judge how smart people or the competition are based on this website and in some schools there is competition.. in others theres not so it really depends on where you go.

Where in TN will you be going? I'll be able to tell you if your fears of over-competitive schools are well-founded. Of course, you don't have to tell me.

I was born in Ottawa, and moved to the US with my mom when my parents got divorced when I was two. I have dual citizenship. I am/was considering moving in with my dad or board at Ashbury College. Do you know of it? What do you think of it?

My advice: Stay in Ottawa. Go to Lisgar or Ashbury and you will get a decent, but probably much better education than a TN public school.

Really...there are overly pretentious people on here who completely revamp their High School years to get into Ivy League Schools...don't worry...I know very few like that. And the ones I know who did...got rejected.

Public schools really aren't competitive at all. Ignore the people on this board.

And exactly, Jonathan, what is wrong with TN public schools?

Nothing that I know of. It's just that the Canadian high schools I mentioned seem a lot better than the one's here. (SE Michigan). The one's I mentioned definitely are better than the local public schools. Lisgar is arguably one of the best public schools in Canada. (Ranked #3 by MacLean's magazine), and Ashbury is one of the best prep schools in Canada. It's an IB school and a lot of students matriculate to top universities in the US and Canada (McGill, UBC, University of Toronto, Harvard, Princeton, Yale, etc.)

I think I may actually talk to my mom about the benefits of it.

It seems like an excellent school.

Ashbury College --> o That school seems so amazing. I would kill to go there. I would say go there if you can. It seems like a great place.
