I really need help in my predicament. Some of you may know my story already but I still need to explain it. I am only repeating all this because right now I think I might as well just die.

So, I took the SAT sophomore year, I don't know why, and got a 1640. Yes I know, it sucks but I was younger and went into the test blind. So I didn't take it Junior year because of APs and SAT IIs. Now, I took it November this time around as a Senior. So I was expecting a really high score increase. Now here it is: I was dishonest. Yes, on a CR section I worked out a math problem. I know, I know, I am ashamed now that I think about it, I was in that whole mode when your taking the test that you want a really high score at all that meaningless BS. So, come Nov 20th, my scores didn't come out and I was told to wait until the 30th: the stupidity of this is that the 30th is the day before the Dec test. So I know my test was flagged because I went up more than 300 points. But I don't know whether or not CB caught on. Should I test standby for Dec? What if they don't inform me on whether they found out in time? What if my scores still don't come out on the 30th?
Please, someone who knows all these rules and workings, please help me!

Are u prepared though for the standby? Maybe u can rush through these few days. Anyhow I don't think CB id suspicious. Take a practice test and see how u will do on Saturday. Or there is always Jan. Good luck.

I think you are worrying too much; everyone was rather harsh on that "I'm so scared" thread where you "confessed". Many students' test scores are released a week late (mine were in October, and it was my first high school SAT). You are probably one of them. Who knows about the x-point increase = flag rules; most are rumors. And what if it was flagged? They probably check your name, DOB, SS#, etc, look for a problem. I don't think they are going to diligently peruse your SAT booklet to find evidence of working on section x during section y. (Think about it: If someone went up 300 points, what is the first thing that will come to CB Official's mind? "Aha! 300 points, how suspicious. I bet he checked a math problem during the CR section and CHANGED IT! Let's look for it!") Of course not. Just relax, wait for the 30th, and if the worst happens that morning, brush up your vocab and stuff, go to bed early, and show up the next day and standby. You'll be fine; good luck!

It's a shame this happened to you since you are amongst the most hardworking people here. If I were you, I'd brush up on vocab and get ready for the Dec SAT standby; just in case of course. I'm a believer of Murphy's Law, but I wish you the best and that you get your 2300+ scores by Friday.

Upon creating this thread I knew I would come off as paranoid. I am still in guilt for what I have done, hence my fear.

Three questions
1) Is the registration form for standby the same in the guidance office
2) Standby doesn't require commitment like a regular registration, so I will have time to check scores between the 30th and 1st to make my decision on whether to test the next day right?
3) It says I can pay through credit card, how.

Basically, I don't want to retest if I get my scores, I have that option since its standby right?

Hey akahmed: you shouldn't have gone back to that problem, it's true, but it certainly didn't get you your 300+ increase. You earned that increase through killer amounts of work.

For that very reason, I expect that your test is going to check out. You didn't get someone else to take the test for you; you weren't attracting the proctor's attention by blatantly staring at the student next to you or working on the wrong sections throughout the exam; you didn't commit any of the flagrant violations that the CB is looking for. rb9109 is right. Your increase was overwhelmingly legitimate, and I think you're going to be okay.

There are any number of reasons that your score might not have come out. Much of the time, scores are delayed for no good reason at all--just a CB error of some kind that required the test to be hand-scored. I don't think you can assume that they're holding it because they flagged it; some technician might have spilled coffee on it or something. They screw up a batch or two every year. Who knows what happened to yours?

I had a student last year whose scores were delayed so long (for no good reason at all) that she had to retake, so thinking about standby is a good plan. But I think you can, and should, forgive yourself. You worked really hard for your increase, and one error in judgment can't take that away from you. And even if you have to retake, you've got the skills you need to rock out a second time.

As always lotf629, your responses bring me assurance

I do have to admit it was a lot of work. And as everyone here knows, juggling SAT and GPA is a hard trick to learn. I hope my scores do come out, but is there a way I can contact them, actually speak to someone that can tell me, if the scores will come out as promised on November 30th for me? Your story about your student makes me feel helpless, what if I do have to take it again just because they have issues? I have tried the 866 number but only get automated service...:( is there any other phone to call?

lol.....You shouldn't be worrying whatsoever.

I'm sure many people go back and do questions that they missed (checked with people, figured it out later, etc).[I know many people who do it/have done it ;)]

Hehehe honestly I am quivering about my december stand-by test too. I don't feel prepared at all and I told myself I would look over vocabulary words and review at least a couple hours everyday but honestly, I haven't started yet. There's too much schoolwork to do and I'm slipping into slight depression. I don't know if I'll ever get into an American college/university. Crap!!!

I'm in a worse predicament than you are > <

Akahmed, my student was able to talk to a real person at the CB. If you couldn't get through the recording last week, it may have been because of the holiday. I'd try again. You would probably feel lots better if you could just talk to them and hear why your score is being held up, because it's probably nothing. My guess is that even if for some reason your test ended up being held and you had to retake, your colleges might be flexible about receiving a slightly late score under the circumstances.

My student was waiting on the Oct test for a Nov. 15 ED app, so she was cutting it significantly closer than you would be for your deadlines, and there were a couple of other extenuating circumstances too that you're not facing. And, oh yeah, she did end up getting into Northwestern, a school she had really wanted to attend, and was ecstatic. So even that worst-case situation turned out really well.

If you were one of my own students I'd bet you a huge sushi dinner that all of this is going to come out in the wash, just fine, no problems.

Do you know what kinds of reasons for holding scores will take how long? Because if I call them, and its a reason that is trite, then I would rather wait then go through another test. Of course if its a more important reason then I would retake. Do you think if I did that it would be better? Because I hate to think of retaking.

I just called Collegeboard which then connected me to ETS. It turns out my scores are under review because of a substantial increase. The lady conducting my review, Katrina Ahmed (I know we have the same last name), told me it could take 2-4 weeks, and on top of that, theres Christmas holidays and all that so she said they might just come out the beginning of next year. SAT scores are due by Jan 1! What the he||! Why are they so good at screwing over students.

I would have had to get a math and verbal score increase of 350 points since the last time I took it. Do they count verbal as just CR, or CR and W?

Because if its just CR, that means I had to have gotten more than a 1480/1600. Yay! Sorry, I'm just dying to know my scores.

At least you now know that everything's late due to your great improvement.
Just relax, enjoy Christmas and get ready to see that 2350+ rolling... ;)
