I told my interviewer I got into Stanford..

He asked! What was I gonna do, lie? So I told him where I applied, and that i got accepted early. Is this going to hurt me?

Yeah, it might. Did you tell him that you had a stronger interest in Harvard or at least imply that you would pick it over any other school?

just curious to know why you even bothered applying to Harvard after getting accepted at Stanford......??

lol~If you were you, I would do the opposite thing..

It shouldn't hurt. That you applied to Harvard shows that you are interested in attending Harvard. Everyone at Harvard knows that Harvard wins the battle of cross-admits between Harvard and Stanford, which is certainly a fine university. There is nothing to be ashamed of about applying to Stanford, and even less to be ashamed of about being accepted there. I don't think you should be penalized, nor do I think you will be penalized, for believing that honesty is the best policy.

Good luck to all of this year's applicants.

Have you seen the funny flash video about college admission yet?

http://www.ryanschoen.com/college.html

I hope that takes your mind off the suspense of waiting for results.

lol............both are great schools.

I'm having my Yale interview tomorrow... should I avoid at all costs mentioning that I got into Harvard? TI_2006 and tokenadult's comments have me worried - Harvard does win the majority of cross-admits, but I'm honestly torn between them and right now I might even like Yale more.

I didn't say which one I had my mind set on, cuz I'm not sure yet.

I wanted to be honest...

Honesty best policy.

Responding to the worries I have stirred up, let me say that the first part of what I said fits your situation: if you are interested enough in a college to apply to it and to attend an alumni interview, you are interested enough to attend. Interviewers probably do try to pick up clues about students who are put up to apply to a famous college by their parents, when the students don't really want to attend. But you DO want to attend, and you can be perfectly honest about that.

I know, a little, a young man in my town who last year was admitted to Harvard and to Notre Dame, and who chose to attend Notre Dame. No school always wins the battle of cross-admits. Different students have different reasons for attending the colleges they attend. Just go to your interview indicating that you are interested in the interviewer's college, if that's what you honestly think, and then decide where to enroll by the national reply date of May 1 the same as every other student who is admitted to more than one college.

Good luck to you too. Do you think the video is funny?

thanks for making this thread julyinoh b/c i wasnt going to tell my interviewer i got into stanford either...but i guess i will tell him.All i know is when i told my MIT interviewer, everything went downhill from there; but i guess it varies with interviewers/schools

Hahaha hey Magerie! I see you on the Stanford boards mostly (I hang out around there usually)

i told my MIT interviewer i got into Stanford, but it seems to be okay with him. I basically explained why, since Stanford was local, and everyone around here earlies to Stanford and all that stuff.

Last year, I told my Princeton interviewer that I got into Harvard early (back in the day before single-choice, my brother got into both Harvard and Princeton early and chose Harvard, and my Princeton interviewer knew that, too).

I still got into Princeton.

Well, I lied to my Penn interviewer--only listed 4 other schools to which I am applying (leaving out HYPS)

They aren't suppose to ask that anyways

Update: I told her I got into Harvard (she asked/hinted over and over again...) and she immediately started talking about how much she hated Harvard and that the people there are snobs and etc. To be honest, I'm starting to like Harvard more at the cost of Yale... haha... I don't want to go to a school where "every Yalie can tell you the real truth about Harvard." It's only one step from a sweatshirt slogan: "YALE - ACTUALLY BETTER THAN HARVARD."

I'm sorry if I made anyone worry. Simply indicate in your interview that you like the school (obviosly- you are applying) and discuss some reasons why you like it. If they ask, it is probably better not to lie. I don't think it will severely hurt your chance of acceptance so long as you did not explicitly state that you preferred another college.

Hey Mallomar, when did you get your Penn interview? I applied 1/1, still no contact (and I live in Northwest Houston)

I got it in Carolina.
Did anyone else in your region get an interview? If so, don't worry, just wait. If not, then don't worry, you won't get one and you're not alone.

I told my Harvard interview that H wasnt my first choice...
