I took Geometry in 8th grade and Algebra 1 in 7th grade. I’ve heard these middle school classes can show up on the transcript, as they are considered high school classes. Will my 8th grade geometry class and 7th grade algebra class show up on my transcript as they are considered high school level classes? Thank you to everyone trying to answer my question
Depends upon your HS. Email your HS counselor and find out.
Our two kids took Geometry in 7th grade and Algebra 2 in 8th grade. When they went to prep school, they took higher level math in High school. Your transcripts will show that what higher level math you took in high school.
That is a question only your school/district can answer. At my high school it would not show up on your transcript, count as a credit, count towards your gpa, or exempt you from any high school math credit requrements. You would simply start high school in a higher level but still need 4 years of math classes. Colleges are smart enough to know you took them prior to high school.
Agree that it depends on the district. At ours, D has 4 classes from 8th grade that are on her transcript and count toward her GPA/rank: Algebra 1, the usual 10th grade science class, her foreign language, and a music performance group because she played “up” with the HS kids.
Our HS does not include middle school grades in HS transcript. But I know some do. The only time they include the middle school grades was on their Cal Poly SLO app. Self reported and not required to submit a transcript.
My son’s 8th grade geometry is on his high school transcript as a Pass only. He started his first hour at the high school and then was bussed back to the middle school.
Yep, dependent on your school. For my kids, accelerated math and early Language classes both are on the transcript. I think that’s fairly common.
For my older, only 8th Geometry showed up, not 7th Algebra. I haven’t yet looked for my younger - I’m guessing only 8th Algebra 2 will show, not earlier Alg/Geo.
I’m fine with geometry showing up on my transcript, but I did 7th grade Algebra, and don’t want that to show up because I got an A in it. I got an A+ in 8th grade geometry so I’m fine with that showing up. I will reach out to my counselor asking whether these classes will show up on my transcript. Thanks.
What you seem to be concerned about is if the grade will be part of your GPA. Also school dependent, but in California they don’t count 9th grade so wouldn’t put your middle school grades in their.
Yes, there’s a difference between being on a transcript and being included in a GPA calculation. None of our 8th grades are included in the GPA even when they are are on the transcript. Check with your school, but I suspect this is standard.
An A vs. A+ in 7th grade will be completely meaningless in college admissions.
It definitely depends on your district! For me, my algebra and geometry grades in middle school showed up in both my transcript and as part of my GPA, but it really depends on how your school calculates it.
In our district in California:
Middle school grades are on the middle school transcript
High school grades are on the high school transcript.
When the student is about to transition to the high school, they meet with the high school counselors in May, who look at the MS transcript, and assign classes according to the student’s MS completion of math or foreign language levels.
They don’t look at grades other than to see if the student has passed the courses. If a MS student is at a “C” grade, they recommend that the student take the course again in high school. It’s the option of the student and/or the parents.
Each school district is very different.
I did as well! Thanks for the replies they helped me too.
Oh please say you are joking about this! You do know that many colleges don’t look at + or - parts of grades at all. What’s wrong with an A?
If you are worrying about an A vs an A+, My opinion is…that is not a worthy thing to be concerned about….at all. Not at all.
