The title says it all. I took AP Chem, and AP Calc BC, i got a B in both classes. and i didnt take either of the AP tests. What are colleges going to think. I am planning on taking the SAT sub tests for chem and either math I or II. once again what will colleges think of my decisions.

they will think that you took the tests and are withholding the scores.

good luck getting into anything other than a community college...

not taking an AP test basically ruins your chances at getting into any good college. you really should have taken those tests.

Way to be positive fhqwgads2005. It doesn't ruin your chances, but it really would have been a better choice to take the exams. If you feel up to it, you can always self-study and take it next year (if possible).

Lol, I think fhqw is being sarcastic, but maybe I'm just pointing out the obvious.

the REAL QUESTION is: why didn't you take the tests??? were you lazy?? were you scared??? sick, maybe?

When you apply to college, you state that you took APs. When you get accepted, you MUST present your passing scores. It is part of the admissions process at many good colleges such as Cal (BERKELEY). If you don't present your scores, your admission could be revoked. Or, if it's possible, you can say you had bad scores. Nevertheless, the best course of action, if asked to explain the lack of scores, is to state the reason why you didn't take either test. I mean 1 is reasonable. But 2??? Man, that's a problem. Do you have money problems? The test is $82. People can't afford that sometimes. But if you're in good financial standing, then there's no excuse.

Hey what if you cancel before June 15th to preserve your hopes for becoming an AP Scholar with Honor... is this is a bad idea???

go ahead if youre that sure you screwed up. What's the whole deal about being an AP Scholar though????? It's really stupid, in my opinion. What's the requirement for AP scholars anyhow???

dude, don't cancel your scores for that crap. even if you get a 3 on them colleges will look at it more favorably than not having a score. ap scholar is retarded.

^^^I agree with the statement on AP Scholar. It really is retarded.

any more comments/suggestions?

well it depends also on if most of your class took the ap test. like... in my school, we've always had an ap french class, but no one has taken the test since 1994 (until this year, when i took it). however, A LOT of people between 1994 and 2007 who took ap french but didn't take the ap test have gotten into top tier schools no problem.

it also probably depends on whether or not you want to go into that field.

It doesn't look good. No, it's not going to kill your application, but it will hurt it substantially. It shows the colleges that you're more interested in raising that GPA (if your school counts AP classes on a 5-point scale), or taking a hard class just to get to a good college, than actually mastering the material. Or it shows that you don't have commitment towards something.

thanks. anything else peeps?!?

"It shows the colleges that you're more interested in raising that GPA (if your school counts AP classes on a 5-point scale), or taking a hard class just to get to a good college, than actually mastering the material. Or it shows that you don't have commitment towards something."

Is that really a bad thing? Honestly, students look for a challenge, take the harder classes, and choose to not take an optional test. Problem? You guys are making some of these test scores as a prize in the end, which makes no sense if you arent getting anything out of it.

I didnt take one AP test because my teacher sucked. I did not retain anything, and would have rather not gone through the pain of the test while knowing nothing. I didn't take another exam because I couldn't get credit for it. Again...why would I take it? To show off? No...

Obviously my point only makes sense in certain situations...but everyone is getting way too fierce about these scores.

"Honestly, students look for a challenge...and choose to not take an optional test."

Is the test itself not a challenge? If they are seeking a challenge, wouldn't it make more sense to take the test?

If you were given the option of not taking your final, and it having no bearing on your final grade, I couldn't think of anyone who would voluntarily take it...

In my school, if you take the class but don't take the test, it says AP on your transcript but it's not weighted in your GPA. I mean, some people get 1s but they put up with it. The way I think of it is that you can withhold the grade and you prepped for it all year. I think it's wasting your own time because you can't show the colleges that you learned anything. =/
