The title says it all. I took AP Chem, and AP Calc BC, i got a B in both classes. and i didnt take either of the AP tests. What are colleges going to think. I am planning on taking the SAT sub tests for chem and either math I or II. once again what will colleges think of my decisions.

It depends on when you took them---if it was like freshman or sophomore year then it probably won't hinder you, as it could mean that you weren't mature enough to take it (not to be offensive, but due to young age). If it was during your upperclassmen years, I think it would be odd that you didn't.

I took the classes my junior year. i am currently a junior

Not having an AP score for a class that you took says two things:

You didn't feel you were prepared enough & therefore didn't take the test

You took the test but thought you failed, so you canceled/withheld your score.

Either way it doesn't look good.

Colleges will look skeptically at grades in AP Classes if you have no AP Exam score.

It doesn't bold well for you. I guess you could always twist it and say you didn't want to waste money since you were sure you wouldn't be prepared. $83 for a failing test isn't worth it. And it's not like you made an A in the class and didn't take it, because that would downright imply major grade inflation.

atleast in chem, will taking the sat II make up for any speculation that colleges have about grade inflation, or anything like that

It does not look good. It looks like you want the extra GPA point booster. But I know friends of my D forgot to sign up and did not take it last year(sophomore). BTW,The test is $95 for this part of the country.

I think AP classes with no AP exams are viewd equivalent to Hons. Class. So you will still get weightage equivalent to that of an Hons. Class at your school.

Do you have to submit your scores from your AP tests?

No you don't.

From Collegeboard.com AP FAQ: "If I don't get a good grade on an AP Exam, will it hurt my chances for college admission?

If you take an examination as a senior, colleges will not receive your grade before July–probably well after you have been admitted. If you choose to report AP grades obtained before your senior year, you will primarily be telling the colleges that you undertook a difficult course and that you are serious about your studies..."

well, would it be better to take the test and get a 1/2 or to not take the test at all?

Crap...

I took Comp Sci AP this year and I'm probably getting an A for the year, but I didn't take the test because I didn't think I was going to be prepared. I barely learned anything because the teacher was a joke.

What should I tell my colleges? That I forgot to sign up? or that I knew I wasn't going to get a 5 so didn't want to waste 83 dollars?

You could always so that you werent sure about the college you wanted to go to when you signed up for the class. But when it was time to register for the AP test, you found your college and they didnt accept the credit for your major. :D

Well, actulaly nvm because idk HOW you would explain to colleges. It looks dumb if you put it into essays though...

This is something for the Guidance Counselor to explain in cover letter. After getting all 5's and 4's my son got a 2 in AP Latin at the end of junior year. He decided to send it. GC explained that the teacher hadn't adequately prepared him. He got into Williams, U Chicago, Brown. waitlisted at Amherst. The guidance counselor could explain that you didn't understand the importance of the exams.

ty peeps, any other commensts homies?
