I took the SAT and not planning to take the ACT

I took the the SAT but I’m not planning to take the ACT. I got the free waiver, but I still have to pay $25 for reasons I don’t know why. I don’t have the money and my mom is not going to use her credit card on the internet, she is too scared. Does not taking the ACT lessen my chances to get into colleges in CA? And if your one of the people who got into a college without doing ACT, what college is it?

NO. Either the SAT or ACT are fine. ALL colleges accept either one. Chill.

You’re not required to take both. In theory, colleges on the coasts prefer the SAT and colleges in the middle prefer the ACT. I don’t know how accurate that it is, but it’s something we say around here. Practically everyone in my grade only took one or the other, they choose which is more attuned to their strengths, and focus on it from sophomore year to fall senior year. So, in my opinion, you’re fine.

NO. Only one college in the US has a preference - a school in CA for the ACT. Everyone else doesn’t care at all. And even that one school will accept you whatever test you take.

Are you sure you didn’t accidentally add some service (prep book? late registration?) that made it $25 to take the ACT? If you have a waiver, it should be completely free so something is off there.

(and it really doesn’t matter which you take but some people do better on one or the other so it’s nice to do both if you can.)

Thanks, my nervousness is falling down the thermometer. And @OHMornof2, trust me. I didn’t click on anything else. I did the whole registration twice to make sure and I got the same results.

Sounds like you’re trying to register for the December test? The late fee is $25. If you try a later test (IDK if you are a senior and it matters) it should be free.
