I totally botched my interview

My interviewer told me to meet her on Highway A at a Starbucks next to a Fred Meyer. So I am on that highway, I see Fred Meyer, I see a Starbucks, bingo. Not so much bingo! I waited an hour before I realized I was probably at the wrong Starbucks. So I get a voicemail an hour or so later from my interviewer telling me to reschedule another one with her later. She had to call my house to get a cellphone number and ahhh.... this is not going to make me look very good at all. Sigh.

Why does Starbucks have to have so many locations on the same highway next to the same relative landmark!?!? Aaahsdnfs.

Naw mistakes happen.

Okay, alum interviewer here. (make you feel better?)

The positive: you were somewhere. You had a good reason to think you were in the correct place. She called your house to get your cell - and she wants to reschedule. She's not saying "tough luck" or some harsher variation - she's willing to try this again.

So - damage control. Apologize profusely (but I think you have already), get her cell for the rescheduling (so if you're waiting around, you can call her to confirm), and thank her for coming out to meet with you again. When you meet up (finally), be sure to be early. Grab some homework and be waiting at the Starbuck's or whatever.

Honest mistake, and if you try to (proactively) fix things, she'll probably appreciate it.

Oh yeah - the all-important thank-you note! Send an email, ecard, or note afterwards, thanking her for going out of her way to meet you again. Unless she's the grudge type, hopefully she's understand.

I sent her an Email. I hope she understands :/

never EVER assume "that starbucks is the right one." Going like this in a foreign country means you will certainly get lost :)

Well I just find it funny that there are apparently two Starbucks-next-to-Fred-Meyers in different areas on the same road

Aw man, that is so rough.... Ariesathena gave you the best advice though I think. I just wanted to comment that you are like the 8th Tufts prospective student who was interviewed at Starbucks. Why wasn't I interviewed at Starbucks? Haha. But good luck next time!

i was interviewed at starbucks too! its the thing to do. hehe but yea sorry legendofmax that does suck...dont try to worry TOO much though because 1. your profuse apologies and the fact that it really was an accident, and also 2. the interview isn't the most important thing in the world. It wont have a big effect dont worry. Good luck!

Send a thank you note after the interview as well. Only a handful of students have done that but it is impressive. I once returned from an interview and an hour later checked my e-mail to see a thank you note mentioning some of the information we spoke of that was particulartly helpful. Also hint, some interviewers write their interview up the same day(actually it is recommended to do that) so don't wait a week for the thank you note. Good luck!!
