Which more prestigious school(s) did you turn down in order to attend Tufts?

For me, they were Johns Hopkins and Georgetown

What swayed you towards Tufts and away from each of the others?

Emory, Vanderbilt, W&M Honors.

Better city, better school, more international.

Worse weather :(

I liked tufts the best when I visited, and its the closest... I didn't choose tufts based on prestige. Lets get back on topic, how about you?

UMich Engineering

My daughter turned down Cornell, Northwestern, Emory, and U Mich Honors. It was a tough decision but Tufts appears to be the best fit. She was not driven by Ivy League status or US News and World Report rankings. It simply came down to what felt right- and of course, Boston is a great university town!

From Duke to Tufts

i dont think my friend Toby gets on CC often...he turned down Rice for Tufts, since T offers more financial aid

Tufts over Columbia, Wellesley, Wesleyan, Vassar. I chose over Columbia because I wanted to leave NYC for college and wanted a more undergrad focused school with better camaraderie.

The other three weren't even an option bc they offered much less financial aid than Tufts or Columbia, so I didn't think it was worth it to pay more to go to them.

tufts over UCLA

GO JUMBOS!!!!!!!!!!!

I actually had an entire year to think about whether I was going to go to Tufts or not, and I still decided to go to Tufts. I'm not sure how you would measure "prestigious schools" but I turned down Boston U, NYU, and Northwestern. I also would have had the opportunity to retake the SATs and rewrite my essays, and I could have reapplied to other schools, but I realized that I really just wanted to be a Jumbo.

I don't know if this is "more prestigious" but I turned down BC and University of Rochester.

Five years ago I turned down JHU, Gtown, Amherst Cornell, Wellesley, Dartmouth and a few others for Tufts.

I turned down NYU, University of Southern California, Boston College, and George Washington Uni. for Tufts.

Vassar, Williams, Middlebury, Wesleyan (More prestigious? IDK)

Chose Tufts over Northwestern, Cornell, Colgate & Michigan…

My D chose Tufts over Haverford and Muhlenberg; rejected waitlist offer from Vassar and
U Chicago-

I’m not sure that these posts are terribly meaningful. Moreover, this doesn’t ask for a terribly informative response, since some people might choose Tufts over another school (or vice versa) because of better FA offers.

I don’t believe the purpose is to be meaningful. It is just fun to see the schools these amazing kids were admitted to, and then see their choice. Go Jumbos!

over Bowdoin College (more prestigious), Boston College and Brandeis were other options! though I don’t think these two are quite on Tufts level. :)
