Thank you for your comments in advance! I will appreciate your advice/criticism.

Most chance thread posters sound so same.
2300+ SAT, research, perfect/near-perfect SAT II’s, great recommendations, etc etc…
Since they sound so same, I guess everybody has about the same chances of getting in.
Other than that, I’m not from the admissions office, so I can’t say for sure.
Just keep up the great work and best of luck!

Your SAT scores and GPA indicate you are a competitive applicant, but that’s about all anyone can say. See: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/harvard-university/1420290-chance-threads-please-read-before-posting-one.html

Your GPA might hold you back. Your sophomore 3.175 brings your overall GPA down to about a 3.57. True, projecting straight "A"s going forward gets you to a 3.6+ when applications are due, but many applicants will have 3.9+.

Are you projecting your test scores, too, or are those actual scores?

Good luck!

I dont understand why kids always want people to chance them. You may have 2300 and get rejected, or you may have 2100 and get accepted. No one knows who gets in. You should also not focus too much on getting into harvard, because truth it, most likely you won’t get in. just do what you love and the best you can, and youll get into a really good college. I can give you one advice to get into harvard: write the best essays in your life and SHOW passion for what you do, dont just tell that you are passionate.

sherpa, My test scores are actual scores.

I was just worried about my GPA, but since you guys say that Im a competitive applicant, that makes me feel so much better.

Thanks!

Focus on essays, grades, good recs, and ECs. And do the things you like to do. These will increase chances of admission to great and elite schools.

And focus on many schools in elite, not just HYPSM.

Great, another Indian guy who’s premed and wants to go to HYPSM (where you’ll certainly be rejected at)…

Funny how CC has made us all such hardened cynics. LOL

I can’t imagine what the admissions officers start to feel/think…OP, nothing against you…you sound amazing…but surely the tsunami of amazingness begin to dull even the most diligent of admission depts…

You’ll definitely get into a top-tier school, but some of your grades might take you out of the running for HYP.

You could try being an exchange student somewhere and getting perfect grades that year; perhaps that would help.

Your GPA is low. Everything else looks solid, though. I mean, Harvard has a 5.9 percent acceptance rate, essentially one in twenty people get in. I don’t like those odds.

To add: perhaps you could transfer to Harvard after your freshman year or go to grad school there.

I got some Cs in high school, and I didn’t bother preparing for the SATs, so my test scores were fine but not as good as yours are. I went to a top-10 LAC and then to Harvard for grad school, and so I ended up where I wanted to be. You’ll surely go to a very good college- likely an Ivy, and you’re clearly very, very bright, so you’ll be fine. Just remember: life is one issue after another, but you can’t let the issues derail getting excellent grades.
