What are my chances of getting into MIT? What can I do to increase these chances? Thanks for reading!
P.S.: I'm interested in econ/business possibly with a math minor.

Dude you are so Asian

What site were you at for ARML?

ARML National High Scorer 2006

This year's highest score in the nation was a perfect 8. The winner was on the Indiana Gold team. There were about 50 scores of 7 in the nation.

National High Scorer is the title given to all of the participants who got 7. I have the sweater to prove it ;). I was at the Iowa site, there actually wasn't a Kansas ARML team so I joined the missouri red team (I put Kansas ARML so that people wouldn't think I was from missouri and start asking where in Missouri I lived). And River Phoenix, I am very asian good observation :). Tetrahedron, I think I recognize your name from artofproblemsolving.com, but I just kinda lurk on those boards once in a while anywayz. Thanks for the replies, somebody chance me please!

Apparently I just replied to your chances thread in the What Are My Chances forum when I could've simply done it in the forum I haunt anyway. Oh well.

I would say your chance is higher than the average; however, are you male or female? Because male applicants have much lower acceptance rate (like 9%) compare to female applicants (around 30%). Those male applicants who were accepted into MIT are like the weirdest, coolest, brightest kids in the college application pool each year.

I'm male, dang I never knew there was that much of a gap. I guess there's not as many girls applying to MIT though and they don't wanna be like Caltech with that 3:1 ratio. Would making the USAMO constitute a hook for MIT?

There aren't any hooks for MIT.

If you make the USAMO that's a strong indication of your interest and ability, but (as you will get tired of hearing ;)) it is a holistic sort of process, and while the lack of some things (good grades, decent test scores, demonstrated passion in some area...) may make you a less attractive candidate, there really isn't anything that would make anyone a shoo-in.

Yep, MIT always tries its best to create a 1:1 male to female students ratio. I think the current male to female ratio is around 11:9, much bettter than Caltech :) !!!

So short of a sex change, what can I do to improve my app in the next 1/2 of a year?

Do something fun and focused this summer. Think about what you could bring to the MIT community that would be unique and worthwhile. Write good essays that show who you really are. Get good teacher recommendations. Apply EA if you want the chance for an early answer.

That's really about it.

I didn't know that. Congrats on your performance - getting a 7 is awesome.

Thanks :). Dammit I got rejected from PROMYS, rolling admissions suck :(. I'm kinda worried cuz my list of stuff is more Awards than it is EC's. Tennis basically takes up the second half the school year (3 hours a day after school). Is this going to be a problem on my app?

no. it looks good. we have enough scrawny nerdy boys that are full of themselves and think theyre better than the girls. actually there arent many. im just trying to stick up for my gender. mit girls are smart too and just as nerdy and scrawny as the boys. anyways, sports show commitment which is good. keep it up. have fun. your list looks great. like mootmom said, summer activities are important. something researchy would look good. keep up the good work. maybe ill see ya around mit in a little over a year.

0.0 You're already prepared!!! I'm probably the worst applicant for MIT T___T It sounds great.... continue to do good and I agree with mootmom said something unique and fun!
