I'm going up to ATL next year to start my journey for a B.S. in ME, and after that I want to work towards a Ph.D. in bioengeering (they suggest if you want a Ph.D. that you should just skip over your master's). I've researched their MBA program and it looks like I could possibly get it while working toward my Ph.D. My mother says, though, that a master's is just like a MBA, so I wouldnt need to get a MBA? Does anybody have any other information on this?

an MBA is a Master’s in Business Administration

The masters is strictly a subset of the PhD if you do both at the same university and so getting the former will not set you back at all in getting the latter. Anyway, I’m fairly sure Tech offers a MBA-PhD program (see [Georgia Tech - College of Management | Dual Degree Programs](http://mgt.gatech.edu/programs/mba/dual.html) , but note that it implies combining with a masters)

If you’re funded by the department for your PhD, you’ll need to check if they’ll allow you to earn an MBA. The College of Management will require approval from your primary school (Bioengineering) before it will admit you for a secondary degree (the PhD will be primary and the MBA will be secondary).

Practically, many departments will not allow it. You’ll be adding 4 full semesters to the PhD program and few classes can be applied across programs. And this ignores the fact that you’ll need to be admitted to the PhD program (which is not easy) and then the MBA program (also not easy - one of the highest average GMAT scores in the country).

First, worry about completing your BS. Try a semester of research to see if you like it. Then start to worry about graduate school.
