I recently was deferred by my two EA schools Caltech and MIT. I want to add few more match schools. SAT 2300, M2 800, Chemistry 710, UW GPA 3.93, W GPA 4.8. Good EC. California resident. Computer science and engineering major.
I applied to UCs, USC, Rice. Please suggest more match schools.
-American University
-Baylor University
-Drexel University
-Fordham University (Columbia transfer program)
-Kalamazoo College
-Lewis & Clark College
-Marquette University
-Occidental College
-Point Loma Nazarene University
-Syracuse University
-Temple University
-Worcester Polytechnic Institute
Thank you @bouders I forgot to say I will be applying to Harvey Mudd, but I think it might be reach or very high match. I am really scared that I only have safeties and reaches at this point and UCs are unpredictable, so I don’t count them in.
@inshm2016 , no reason to be calling her list “insulting” man. I saw your other thread, yes, your stats are top notch, but you and I are still international students. We’re going to study in the US, which mostly likely decimates the education systems in our own countries. I do agree that you’d be capable of getting into higher ranked universities, but her list wasn’t necessarily a bad one. They’re safeties, for the most part. Be grateful we’re getting this opportunity. If you’re coming from a rich family then… We’ll be grateful for that I suppose.
In any case, I have a little more knowledge of LACs then normal public universities. But NYU, Boston College, UMich(stretching it here but it could be considered a high match) could be nice options for you. Maybe Emory.
Maybe UVA and Chapel Hill if you’re feeling daring, though they’re not too forgiving to outsiders, mdomestic or international.
Edit: Throw in some LACs just for fun. Vassar, Colgate, Carleton(bordering high match), Washington and Lee, etc.
@AGoodFloridian you got confused. Inshm2016 was just answering my question and those are my stats, not his / hers. I am also hoping that the first list cannot be considered my safeties.
@AGoodFloridian I meant that the list by @newjerseygirl98 does not contain any match school for a person with those stats. How the hell is, eg, Kalamazoo College a match school and not a safety??
I was going to put that in an edit but time ran out. In some way, it still applies, just the first portion directed at ^
And the second portion directed at you. You have a very nice shot of getting into those universities you listed, but having plenty of matches is a wise decision too.
You’re absolutely right in that regard, @inshm2016 . I just don’t believe insulting was the appropriate word to use in this situation. Gives off a snobby air, which I’m sure wasn’t your intention.
@inshm2016 I think your comment is insulting. The OP didn’t ask only for top-tier schools.
The list was a mix of matches and safeties, since the OP doesn’t appear to have any. All of the schools I listed are great schools. Even if they have high acceptances rates, the students still have high stats.
American, Baylor, Fordham, Occidental, and Worcester Polytechnic are definitely matches, since their acceptance rates are around 40-50 percent.
The only true safeties are Kalamazoo & Drexel, which are still fine schools.
OP, what’s your financial situation? That will effect match school suggestions. ie: do you qualify for/need full financial need met? Or can you afford OOS privates without fin-aid/merit aid?
OK, the matches I’m thinking of: Boston College (high match b/c it’s pretty competitive), Boston University, Northeastern, Tufts, George Washington University, Emory, Pomona… especially if your ECs are truly above average and your essay is good, I think you could find a lot of solid match schools with that GPA/SAT combo. The ones I’m suggesting are just some I’m personally familiar with for various reasons. You might net some merit aid at places like BU and GWU, especially if they decide they really want you to attend.
