univ of washinton sat average is just around 1830…much less than cal poly which is around 1970
and i have to stay here in wa, my wife can move to Ca…she will have Job in ca…in that case after one year we can pay in state.???

Look at the residency questionnaires and supplement and think about how you, your wife and/or child will be answering the questions on the Cal Poly residency forms:

Cal Poly SLO doesn’t participate in WUE.

I wanna ask you one of parents(Mom) go to california and she has not any job there and stay in california with my son for 1 year and does he qualified instate tuition ?

No. And your son would have a diploma from a Washington high school, which makes it pretty obvious that he is not a California resident.

Your son has already been accepted to these colleges. Presumably that means he is a senior NOW and wants to go to college in fall 2014. He will NOT have instate status if he chooses to enroll in college this fall. He won’t be eligible for it. Is your son planning to take a year off before going to college while you hatch this plan to gain instate residency in California?

My guess is,this student is planning to go to college THIS fall!

To the OP…read these answers carefully…again.

And then read the college residency requirements.

Your wife would need to be very self supporting by working in California. AND she would need to PROVE that she had the earnings from a CA job to support herself. Getting HER an apartment in CA will not fulfill the residency requirement if really her permanent address is in WA.

I think you are nit picking regarding these colleges and their “selectivity”. There are California students who go to University if Washington because, they view it as a great opportunity. I’m not sure why you think U of Washi

The grass is always greener on the other side.

You have two choices…pay the instate costs for Washington where you ARE a resident…or pay OOS costs for him to attend a school in California.

But trying to concoct ways to be instate that clearly are NOT in the rules for establishing residency in California is churning your wheels, and your son’s as well.

You KNEW when he was applying that you were NOT California residents.

thanks. Got it…Too much difficult. I abandon …give up… hahahaha

Yes, it would be possible, if at the end of next year, your wife signs paperwork that she is now a legal resident of California and intends to remain.

But I’m still unclear as to Why? U-Dub is an excellent Uni, and certainly no “worse” than Cal Poly. Get a bunch of A’s in Seattle, and any grad school is just as possible – and perhaps moreso – than a degree from SLO.

My son tells me that many of his friends of low stats accepted by Univ of washington. and his tutor tell him that univ of washington is not so good. Just compare the score of SAT between SLO & Univ of Washington. SLO is around 1960 and univ of Washington is just 1830. Acceptance rate of WASH is over 58% But SLO is 32%

you go to below site and compare the preference between Two Univs

<a href=“Compare Colleges: Side-by-side college comparisons | Parchment - College admissions predictions.”>Compare Colleges: Side-by-side college comparisons | Parchment - College admissions predictions.;

Absolutely Cal Poly is preferable.

If Cal Poly is preferable, then find a way to pay for it as an out of state student/non-resident parent. You have the will, now find the way - legally. Good luck!

thank you very much for your kind helps.

Cal Ploy SLO is a fine school. But if your kiddo is going to major in engineering (is he?) he will find equally strong students in the engineering programs at University of Washington.

I have different opinion. Univ of washington is great public Univ in Wa, But academic standard is inferior to that of Cal Poly SLO. Cal Poly Slo might be just after UCB,UCLA. every year Cal Poly’s competitiveness climb up Rapidly…soon it will overcome UCSD. I believe. my son’s Major is not Engineering, His Major is Mathematics.

Then pay full out of state cost and send him to Cal Poly. The fact that you prefer Cal Poly in no way means that the taxpayers of California should pay for your preference. Why do you think I should pay for your child to attend Cal Poly? Are you planning to send me a check to help pay my child’s college costs?

2013 Score of SAT & ACT

From UC.EDU & Cal Poly Home page (Cal POLY’s sat /2*3=equalize UC SAT Standard)

rank. Name of Univ SAT ACT

Berkeley 2076 31
2.UCLA 2052 30
3.UCSD 1992 29
4.Cal Poly SLO 1967 29
5.UCSB 1915 28
6.UCD 1906 28
7.UCI 1854 27

Univ of WA 1830 27.

My son accepted UCSB,UCD,UCI,Univ of WA,UCR and Cal Poly SLO. He has a very strong mind to go to Cal Poly.
My opinion at first was Univ of Wa. because it is In state. not Much money. But I can’t …Because My son is so eager to Cal Poly…I defeated.hahahahah…

Your son applied to ALL CA, out of state, universities except U of Washington. You KNEW you were OOS. You KNEW you would have to pay OOS costs to attend.

Do you really think a ranking of 4 to 8 is THAT significant?

If so, just pay the OOS costs, and be done with it.

The fallacy with your SAT ‘analysis’ is that all of these schools are excellent, and all will provide what your son needs (and more). He is not going to max out on opportunities at any of these schools and he’s not going to be the smartest kid in his class in any of them.

As others have said, if you think CP-SLO is that much better a school, then go ahead and pay for it, it’s your choice to make.

I don’t know I might to move to California soon. If I go to CA after i year I can pay Instate Tuition. to tell the truth.
Tuition of Instate of Cal Poly is cheaper than that of Washington.
