I want to base my common app essay on an extracurricular activity, bad or good idea?

I'd like to write my essay based on the prompt about "a place or environment where you're perfectly content" and it would be about an extracurricular activity that I have dedicated a lot of time to during high school. However, many colleges ask to elaborate on an extracurricular activity in their supplementary essays and I think that talking about the same activity that I talked about in my common app essay would probably not be a very good idea.

What do you think I should do? Change my common app essay topic or talk about the same activity in the supplementary essays?

I say dont. Admission officers say they dont want ur essay to reiterate another part of ur application. As in, they know what ecs u do, they dont want an essay on it.

I don’t think it’s a good idea because in a way you’re wasting an opportunity to present another side of yourself. Why do in two essays what you can do in one?

Absolutely do not talk about the same activity in 2 essays/sections. In these cases, I’d pick another essay for the CA, since they do give you a 2nd place to talk about the EC. You can always pick another EC to mention as well. But then you have 2 EC essays which isn’t all that diverse.

I once asked the same question to a very experienced counselor and he said you could write about EC if you have no other choices or that the activity really influenced and changed you. I think maybe you should think about other options cuz normally if yoou write about your EC it suggests that you have no other things to present…kinda like that.
