I want to be a copywriter!

I want to be a copywriter!

Where should i go?

And what majors do you advice..

a copywriter has no "standard" path . Some of them have BAs in design, some did journalism and other things. So im sure there are a wide number of ways to become one(of course i do have a passion for writing and art)

I’d suggest that you go somewhere where you will be able to do internships and/or take classes that will result in a good portfolio when you graduate.

One thing that will help is if you can gain familiarity with the kind of software in use at both agencies and the client side: magazines, ad agencies, PR agencies, industry groups, advocacy groups, and other potential employers that hire PR/copywriter people. This will include page makeup and web design tools. Often such professional packages are wildly expensive and it’s very difficult for people who are neither students nor already employed at a company that uses them to gain the desired expertise.

At the same time, don’t limit your education too much. Copywriters can major in anything. You never know whether you will ultimately want to follow that career path. And you never know how technology will affect the expectations for it.

One very talented girl I know who created her own magazine in HS–copy, art, layout, the works–went to Goucher. I’m not sure why she chose that school specifically, but you might want to check it out.

I am currently interning at an advertising firm, i will in fact intern at a few more.

So im definitely being exposed to the industry .

Like i said, and you did too, that copywriters can indeed major in just about anything, but i was just hoping to find out what the opinions were on here.

should i go to an Art school ( and study design) or go to a LAS ?
