i want to change rooms now...

I can't deal with my roommate anymore. long story short, he constantly wakes me up in the morning and keeps me awake at night. i told him he's too loud, but he just denies it. now, we just ignore each other because nothing i say will make any difference and i have no idea what his problem is. it's not like i disrupt his studying or sleeping. anyway, i know it's kind of late in the semester, but i cannot deal with him anymore. Tonight has been the turning point for me: he's having people over and being loud on purpose, knowing the fact i am trying to sleep. ENOUGH is ENOUGH. i've already emailed my RA a few minutes ago. Anyone know if i can change rooms at this point in time? I consider this urgent...

Thanks

P.S. I've tried ear plugs...and nope, doesn't help. the walls are paper thin and he's really loud.

Hi,
That’s so frustrating. I’d definitely encourage you to talk (not just email) your RA in person. That is part of their job. It may be that you and your roommate could come to some agreement. There are only a few weeks left, and come finals it’s all about the studying, right?
Having said that you might also try calling the Housing Office to talk to them about your options. I did this a few weeks ago for my 2nd son at another college. His roommate is ridiculously inconsiderate (as are his friends who show up at all hours, looking for food/munchies or even rolling papers!!!). My son was freaking out and getting no sleep. He even missed a very important field trip one Friday as he felt so sick from lack of sleep, he had to email his TA and tell him he was sick. That was the final straw for me. The housing office at his school was very responsive, but when it came down to it, my son decided to stick it out for the final weeks. He also put his foot down (again) with his roommate and things supposedly have been better.

Very much looking forward to a better year next year for my son, and I hope you have a good situation set up for next year, too. Best of luck.

I bought out my roommate for the remainder of the semester, starting around January. She wanted to talk all the time, had totally different hours from me, and what’s worse, was my friend so I couldn’t really complain to her too much about it.

I also changed rooms the next year because the floor was VERY VERY loud. They put me in a corner of the Quad with some empty rooms nearby, and it was great, very quiet. It doesn’t always help to have a single, I eventually went off-campus.
