<p>well im applying to jhu as a freshman and there's a question on the supplement that asks out of the 50 majors, which major would i most likely pursue. i noticed that "pre-med", "medicine" or anything along those lines wasn't a choice. would "public health studies" the closest major to it? i definitely want to show my interest towards medicine and dont want to put "Undecided" as my option.</p>

That’s because you don’t major in pre-med or medicine. You major in a subject that could be totally unrelated and might even make you a well-rounded student (oh, the horror). </p>
<p>Put another way, pre-meds can and do major in everything from biophysics to classics to music.</p>
<p>pre-med basically means you take the classes required to do good on the MCAT/go to medical school. You can take any classes you want if you have those.</p>
<p>JHU doesn’t have a pre-med major or set curriculum; rather, you fulfill your pre-med “requirements” by choosing courses that would count toward whatever medical school you’d like to apply to (for instance, a year of math, two years of bio, etc. etc.). Pre-meds often choose Bio or Public Health majors because there is a lot of overlap in major requirements with med school requirements, and also the classes tend to prepare you for the MCATs – but I would make sure that you hold an interest in whatever major you decide.</p>
<p>And you definitely don’t have to commit right off the bat! If you change your mind later, there’s always the possibility to switch majors too.</p>

<p>Johns Hopkins does offer an undergraduate pre-med program but it is NOT a major. It is an advising track program through our Office of Pre-Professional Advising. Any Johns Hopkins undergraduate student, pursuing any of our Arts and Sciences or Engineering majors, may also pursue the pre-med advising track. The Pre-Professional advisors work with both Arts & Sciences and Engineering students, providing them academic advising, assistance in selecting the proper courses, and helping with the medical school application process. Therefore during the application process, students interested in studying pre-med can choose any major.
