I want to get in! I have no hook

Ok… I have no hook and I feel really average. I have no idea how I can stand out for Brown to select me. I don’t know… I tried my best in high school to try to stand out and couldn’t find anything that great. Please tell me if anything would stand out in these extracurriculars:

-Tae Kwon Do all four years + black belt.
-Marchingband and drumline (pit) freshman year; won high pit in drumline (means best pit in our American Drumline Association Division); played xylophone, vibraphone, and saxophone.
-Orchestra from sophomore to senior year. Lettered in orchestra.
-Summer of 2004 I did 100 hours of community service at Riverside Community Hospital. Summer of 2005 I will do 150 more hours there.
-COSMOS this summer (I think I will get accepted). It’s a biomedical, 4-week, program. Going to try to get a recommendation from here from a professor. Probably go to Summer@Brown this summer also.
-Tutor math 4 hours a week at school.
-Key Club member + various volunteer activities.
-Founder and President of Math Club junior year.
-Founder and President of Mu Alpha Theta.
-1st place on American Mathematics Competition (regional).
-Treasurer of ASU junior year. Vice-president senior year.
-CSF all four years.
-Vice-president of Breakers Club (breakdancing) junior and senior year.
-History Day winner (state level).
-Science Olympia. Junior year won 3rd place in genetics event called “designer genes.” (regional, pretty much everyone wins. Major medal inflation.)
-Member of The National Society of High School Scholars (joined this even thought it felt suspicious in case it might come in handy. Most likely same as Who’s Who.)

My SATs are equivalent to 1300 for the old SAT. I have a cumulative gpa of 4.34 with only 1st semester of junior year included (it will go up after 2nd semester). I’m so passionate about going to Brown that I don’t know what I will do if I dont get in. Man… I really wish I could have found the cure for cancer or something so I could stand out. I guess what I truely enjoy is science and helping others, but I don’t know if these stats will support my passions. I don’t want to go to UCs (in-states). Please help me out. I really want and need a hook. Thanks in advance everyone.

haha... that bad? Someone please tell me what a good hook is. What were your essay topics? bump bump.

Get your SAT score up.

Write a good essay.

Express how much you want to attend the school.

You definately have a shot, but not if you act like you have nothing to contribute to the school.

NO HOOK? I disagree. Your activities are fine (actually, they are far better than fine). I was admitted with no real "hook" but had well-rounded activities... yours sound much stronger than mine, though. Make your essays shine, and try to get your SATs up to the 1400s. Yes, you can get in with a 1300, and about 25% of the Brown students had less than a 1300, but a 1300 will make it harder for you to get in. I really have no means of judging your gpa because I don't know your classes or your school, but you should def. be in the top 10% (top 5% is preferred).

Thanks a lot for your help you guys/gals. :)

you don't need a "hook" to get into brown...i speak from personal experience...you just have to show them you care about what you do...ie...make your essays convincing..!!

hey, you should try looking at other high caliber universities like nothwestern and oberlin, not just the ivies. I'm kind of in the same predicament.

dude I wanna get into brown too! and i applied to cosmos, u applied to Davis right? thats where the biomed is. maybe ill see u there (hopefully if i get accepted)

you NEED to up your SAT
