I am interested in CAL's EECS program. I know that is extremely hard to get in, but i would like to know how my stats match up to their program.

the way my GPA is calculated is that B is 3.0, B+ is 3.3, A- is 3.7, A is 4.0, etc. plus .5 for honors or APs

Does the way your school calculate GPA effect college admissions in any way?

Anyways, how good are my chances of getting into Cal EECS?

if its reach its cuz 1. ur ecs seem relatively weak (no really outstanding acheivements listed at least) 2. engineering is impacted = harder to get in.

Berkeley is known for taking students whose statistics are not always spectacularly high. EECS, though, is an exception. I don't know anyone in there who didn't apply to harvard, penn, cornell and the like. Your SATs aren't bad. See if you can raise them. How your school calculates your GPA won't matter because they just ask for the grades you got and they calculate it themselves. I do have to agree, though, that your ECs are relatively weak. You have to keep in mind that out of the 41,000 that applied this year, EVERYONE played the piano (with the occasional exception of the violin). It's almost become like a suffix to a name that everyone just tags along to their app as a filler. If you're not an officer of a club, there's not much weight in putting it down. Your best bet is to have a position created for you that sounds important like "Key Club: SES Senator" What does the SES stand for? Who cares, at least you have a title. You've still got some time, so do something spectacular and go out with a bang. Good luck!

Unless you're a URM who has a 4.3/2300 whose parents, who live in the ghettos of LA, make less than $20k and you have found a cure to cancer, you don't have a chance at Berkeley.

Just kidding. I think you have a great shot.

cm8333, did you apply to EECS? I read in a previous post you applied to SD as an english major. Was this the case for Berkeley? The selection process varies between the two.
