I want to get out the hell hole I am in right now.

Hello,

My name is Jack and I just finished my freshman year at a state college. And my life is miserable. I use to have amazing grades in my early days of high school but an illness put me down the hole. I was put on the 504 plan my junior and senior year and I was so sick that I was barely able to graduate. The state college that I am attending was the only one that offered me admission.

I graduated HS with a 4.03 weighted and top 40% rank from a competitive publicc high school. I had a 1250 SAT and 800 SAT IIs.

I fully recovered from my illness the summer leading up to college and I was finally able to achieve at a high level.

I have a 4.0 from a ~80 state college. I entered the college with 30ish credit hours from APs and etc.

Here are the classes I took.
Microeconomics, Macroeconomics, Applied Calc, Financial Mangement

Statistics, Introduction to Entreprenuership, English Composition, Investments and Portfolio Management

I play rugby at the college

Passed the NASD series 7, 63 and 65 exam.

Interned part-time at a hedge fund during my freshman year; mostly doing grunt work on my own time.

Assistant Marketing director for a local clothing apparel company; my favorite job, free stuff.

This summer, I am got a position as a summer analyst at a i-bank.

And honestly, I do not enjoy my time here. I hate every minute of my school; from the school colors to the annoying people. I want to transfer out of there my sophmore year as a junior somewhere. I have a smilar course load next year and will likely continue doing everything.

My major is Econ/Finance Mangement.

So the schools that I am looking at are, in no order of perference

Michigan

Penn-Wharton

NYU-Stern

Babson College

UNC-CH (Out of State)

Columbia

Brown

UT-Austin

ANYWHERE other than the current school that I am attending.

Any suggestions/ comments would be awesome and I really would like to go to Michigan/Penn if it is at all possible, and I would also like to know what I can do next year to improve my chances at the school that I listed.

Thanks

Why did you think your SAT I was so low compared to your SAT II scores. I would suggest retaking that. I also don't know how many of your courses will transfer, especially to a liberal arts school like Brown. Higher math classes always look good, something to consider for next year.

Other than that everything looks fine, nice list of matches and reaches. Good AP scores will help you as well and make sure you have specific essays about transfer reasons that don't excessively bash your current school.

Since you've got basically a year's worth of courses, I'm assuming you'll be applying for junior standing next fall at these schools. If not, bear in mind that many of these do not have spring admissions.

Chances:

1) Michigan - if it's LSA, then match. If you're applying to Ross, it's gonna be tough to transfer directly in for anyone.

2) Wharton - reach - you need certain classes to transfer (ck their site) and it's very hard to transfer in as a junior.

3) NYU Stern - match if you take the prereqs...you may already have all of them, but again, junior transfer into Stern is harder than sophomore.

4) Babson - dunno much a/b this one

5) UNC - match - not too tough to get into UNC, but you'll have to spend one semester in the College before you can enter the b-school I believe, so keep that in mind.

6) Columbia - reach for anyone. ~5% acceptance rate for transfers.

7) Brown - reach - your courses are going to be tough to transfer, as someone mentioned. Brown is tough to transfer into, though I think the acceptance rate went up closer to normal this year. Hard to get FA from what I hear.

8) UT-Austin - if you're applying to the College, you should have a good shot. McCombs Business School OOS has like a 6% transfer rate so it's a reach. If you want McCombs, be sure to take the prereqs. My admissions advisor there said she hated the fact that so many people applied w/out completing the courses they wanted and that really helped me.

wow, which bank? that's impressive considering you're only a sophomore..

Apperciate the responses guys.

And I got the job at a mid-size boutique investment bank, I think most i-banks are willing to at least consider freshman if you have solid grades and relevant work experience. I must have send out a 100-150 resumes before I finally got the job.

Any other comments would be great too!

Thanks
