<p>OKay guys, Im another Indian american who wants to go to Johns Hopkins...and everytime I post chance me thread, I always get the question: do you have any hooks? I just dont know how to get one. Well i have a hookup..my cousin is a teacher at JHU for plastic surgery..but i dont think that is what u guys mean. </p>
<p>So please tell me what I can do in my junior year to get the hooks. I have no awards at all. </p>

<p>and as far as my GPA is concerned, i just calculated it myself. My school doesnt tell me.</p>
<p>but for my junior year, it was like 5.9 or something, because i took 6 AP’s and 1 hon class…so if u avg that out…u get like 4.9 something. So i rounded it to 5.</p>
<p>Hook? You don’t need a hook, just a solid, well-rounded application. Keep the EC’s going, and try and get some awards. Academic competitions, essay contests.</p>
<p>depends on your definition of hook. Things that help strongly: usa<em>o, intel semis, etc. Things that pretty much will get you in unless you really screw something else up: intel finals, i</em>o gold medal, recruited athlete,</p>
<p>If you continue without a hook, JHU is a Reach to High Reach.
Do you know how many people are “doing” research nowadays?
TONS. I personally know dozens of people, with many of them winning top awards in national competitions.</p>
<p>Put your research towards a competition like ISEF/Siemens/Intel.</p>
<p>Get published in Nature/Science.</p>
<p>That’s about all the plausible major hooks that might apply to you.</p>
