Hello, I'm currently 15 years old and in my sophmore year. I really want to go to boarding school, but if it hurts my chances of getting finacial aid to Boston University when im older I dont know.
I was wondering if anyone could help me find some boarding schools that are good on science and english. Since i like to read and I want to be a biologist or a embryologist when I grow up.
It cant be too expensive since my family dosent have that much money.
And I live in New York if that helps? Anystate is a possiblilty for me, or country. =]

I like states like New York, New England Area, California, Florida.

If you need anymore information just let me know.

I know there not that good. But what schools should I apply to?

I'm apply to boarding school, too, but I'm in eighth grade. You will have to take the SSAT and get three recommendations. you will have to schedule an interview with the school.

Check out boardingschoolreview.com

That should help you out.

I'm applying to Andover, SPS, and Deerfield, and a private day school.

Berkshire School, Sheffield, MA
Buxton School, Williamstown, MA
Darrow School, New Lebanon, NY
Deerfield Academy, Deerfield, MA
Eagle Hill School, Hardwick, MA
Hebron Academy, Hebron, ME
The Hotchkiss School, Lakeville, CT
Kent School, Kent, CT
The Lawrenceville School, Lawrenceville, NJ
The Loomis Chaffee School, Windsor, CT
Marianapolis Preparatory School, Thompson, CT
Mercersburg Academy, Mercersburg, PA
Northfield Mount Hermon School, Northfield, MA
Peddie School, Hightstown, NJ
Phillips Academy, Andover, MA
Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter, NH
Suffield Academy, Suffield, CT
Tabor Academy, Marion, MA
The Taft School, Watertown, CT
The Williston Northampton School, Easthampton, MA
Wyoming Seminary, Kingston, PA

i think you should post a little about your personality, say what kinds of areas you want to study and how you will approach the school, what you can do for the school, why you want to go to a private school, etc. etc. i think that makes a bigger difference in the admission decision over just grades and ec's.

It would be best to narrow your list. For example, Eagle Hill specializes in learning disabilities. Darrow is "hands on learning." It is unlikely that a candidate interested in Eagle Hill or Darrow would also be interested in Exeter or Andover. Have you looked in www.boardingschoolreview.com ? You can order a free boarding school directory from www.schools.com . Selecting schools is hard especially if you're not familiar with them and you don't know if they would be interested in you. However, it is important work to do. You don't have to come up with a final list, just a list more focused.

I want to go to a school in New England or California.
Has to have Genetics and English Literature.

I dont want to go to a top boarding school since this year is my highest averages. Last year I didnt have much grades higher then a 85 and I was in no ECS.

Basically any school I get accepted with some finacial aid ill go.

Tymel, check out Stevenson in Califorornia. It's a good school, maybe second tier. Also in California, you can check out Thacher and Cate. However, imo, I would say these two schools are more in the top school category. Some people from the Northeast may disagree with my assessment. There disagreement on this matter may come from a long standing bias that if it isn't in the NE, it's probably second rate, whether it be college or bs. I get the feeling my NE bs d is also starting to believe this. Good Luck! By the way, why even think of changing schools now if the school you are currentlygoing to will provide a gateway to BU

If BU is your goal, why don't you start your school search by finding boarding schools that routinely send graduates to BU? Once you have that list, try to identify those schools that would place you in the top 10-30% of their class. Aside from having a very strong academic year (congratulations!), you should think about what you can offer the schools in the way of ec's, athletics and/or the arts.

Okay im checking out Stevenson and I like it alot. But if my averages last year where not higher then a 85. Would I have a chance? Would they see that this year im trying hard and all my averages are higher then a 90?

All the schools in New England seem like they are out of my reach.
Is Stevenson a safety or match or reach for me?

Thanks for being a great help guys/girls!
I will check out schools.com tonight after im done looking at Stevenson

I would guess that Stevenson would be a match or safety for most people. Many of the bs in New England, have a large accept rate to BU. However, many of those students end up elsewhere. So I guess what I'm saying is that BU accepts widely from many NE bs. If my mind serves me, check NMH, I believe thay have a large group going to BU.Good Luck with your search.

Tymel, I have a question, why are you taking earth sciences in 10th grade? Why not Chem or bio or physics? Another question, are you an athlete, or URM, or have any type of hook?

By the way, going to a bs will have no effect on getting FA from BU or any Uni for that matter.

I don't see why not--NMH has a relatively high acceptance rate because it's quite large.
Lawrence and Stevenson--I imagine that their acceptance rates are about 40-45%.
