I want to go to Cornell (sorry repost)

Hey, I'm going into 11th grade, and I want to apply to (and hopefully attend) Cornell University. I pretty much have my heart set on it, and I hope to be joining the AEM (Applied Economics and Management Program in the CALS school).

As of now, I have a few hours of community service, hold an officer position in 2 prestigious clubs at my school (debate + chess), have the most rigorous course schedule offered to juniors at my school (including 4 AP classes, and a class with a curriculum harder than an AP class), an unweighted GPA of 7.8/8, which is about 9/8 weighted and I have terrific grades on SAT IIs as well (Math and Science).

Also, outside of school, I play chess in tournaments, I volunteered at a religious school, and I constantly go to tournaments around the country for debate. I am participating in research at my high school, and hopefully entering Intel.

I really want to get into the program, but it is very selective, what could I do this year and the beginning of senior year + next summer that would boost my chances, asides from high grades on SATs. As of now, I know I need more community service, great SAT/ACT/SAT II/AP exam grades, maintain my class grades, and what else?

I live in New York as well, if that matters.

Also, I forgot to mention, senior year, if junior year goes ok, I plan on taking 2/3 AP economics courses, and I am currently applying to the cornell summer program.

My apologies, I posted this in the admissions forum also, I'm new here, so I didn't even know they had this forum!

hate to be a joykill, but i would advise having your heart set on any college
and really, any of the college summer programs won’t really help you in your admissions; it’s just one of cornell’s little cash cows.
so if you’re attending for the sake of raising your chances, don’t.

idk about your chances; i would wait until at least the summer before senior year to post a my chances post.
it’s too early to tell

ok, and I wanted to go because I heard it was really fun and one learns alot there (I had 2 friends who went this year).
it was more of an am I on the right track sort of deal. and why do you advise against having my heart set on this college, it’s not like I am going to abstain from applying to other schools, but I am looking into Early decision here if my junior year goes well, and I was just wondering. thanks though

well, i said i advise against having your heart set on ANY college, because it makes a rejection that much worse.
like none of the colleges will never, ever make you AS happy, that none of the other programs will be AS good as those of your dream college, when in reality, it is really kind of an absurdly hollow obsession.
and yes, i’m speaking from personal experience :P

but good luck anyways =D

I didn’t want to make ‘having my heart set’ have the meaning that I have an obsession with attending the school. I just want to know the best things I could do to attend the university, especially because it really appeals to me.
I’m going to apply to plenty of other schools, possibly at the same level, so I’d really just like to know what they want to see with my next year etc.

I would take classes/do EC’s related to AEM, whatever those may be.
