I want to learn how to play the guitar

So I'm not a musically inclined person or anything, but I just love how the guitar sounds, and I'm really interested in learning how to play it. Additionally, I have an entire summer to waste, so I might as well do something instead of lazing around the whole time!

So Anyone have experience with self-teaching guitar?

I'm sort of cised. I'm getting a First Act Guitar, because my folks are a bit cheap, but they said if I get good, they'd buy me a really nice one:)

That’s great!

I love guitar- I began it at the beginning of 9th grade (last year). My friend, whose really super good, taught himself by watching those how to’s on youtube and such. You should try that. :D

With as many resources as there are, you should be able to at the very least get the basics by yourself. I would suggest making use of YouTube tutorials a lot, too. Especially if you’re a visual learner.

I don’t know what phone you have, but iPhone has a lot of guitar-tutorial apps too.

How are you doing with that? I mean I want to be pretty good by the end of summer, to the point where I can play a song or two.

I feel like it’s a good past time and a good skill:)

I’m pretty exciteddd!!!

I also plan on using youtube, but I’ll prob. use an internet source to learn strings and stuff.

I can play songs!
I think I’m better at the individual notes though… just because I cant’ seem to move to different chords fast enough xD I’m practicing though, there are just tiny tiny pauses. I’m a perfectionist though :P

It’s a great hobby to take up, have fun and good luck!

I learned online through tabs way back when I was 12.
I used this site called ultimate-guitar (dot com or dot net) can’t remember. it’s really popular though

Anyways, I miss playing guitar as my guitar gently weeps (hehe reference) in my closet. :(

I got Guitar for Dummies (after some experience with guitars already), and found it to be useful. If you’re starting from the very beginning, I would suggest that book.

After a while, it might be helpful to look up songs you like on Ultimate-Guitar.com and see if you can try to play them. You’re probably more likely to continue playing the guitar if you’re interested in the songs you’re playing.

I really think that all it takes is practice–consistent practice. Try to set at least 30 minutes to an hour each day practicing, or more if you like. The key is just sticking to it, because it can become increasingly easy to quit before you get any better.
