I really want to go to Tufts. In fact, I will be doing ED2.

However, I have low GPA, including math. I do however, have As in history and science classes. My understanding was that the engineering is highly selective especially towards Math. In fact, I haven't even received an A in a math class since Freshman year, and even a C in Junior year during BC Calculus (Currently in IB HL Math). I feel like this is hopeless in applying to engineering; I do believe I would be a great fit at the school and bring in personality and character, but I don't know if the engineering department wants someone like me. I heard that transfers between two, especially early on are painless. So should I apply to Arts and Sciences? Is this unethical?

Here's my whole stats.

I go to a highly competitive public school in a magnet IB program. I took the hardest optional classes offered as well (BC Calculus, AP Physics C, etc)
UW GPA: 3.51 (downward trend... Junior year/Senior would be around 3.3)
Weighted: 4.30

SAT: 740-780-780 (2300) Superscored from two tests
SAT II Math Level 2 - 800
SAT II Biology - 710

Took 7 APs so far. Spanish (4), Chemistry (4), Literature (5), Euro (5), Government(4), BC Calculus(4)

Also taking IB High Level Biology, Math, History, English later this school year.

As for my terrible grades, but my high test scores, I have lots of extenuating circumstances that my counselor will mention on the recommendation, and I have also discussed few of them in my essays if that helps. I really hope Tufts can see the person instead of the grades.

Honestly, the only thing I feel I am lacking is the GPA. How are my chances for ED2 Engineering? Do they look better if I apply to A&S?

And Dan, if you are out there. Obviously, you're not gonna chance a prospective student, but can you shed some light on the A&S vs. Engineering dilemma? Does it make a significant difference in the admission? Thank you so much.
