How necessary/helpful is a bicycle at Cornell? Is it worth bringing one there? I mean, how many kids actally use bicycles for getting around?

I'm not going to bring one.

A large portion of the year it's not practical to use it anyway because of the snow.

I brought one my first semester and used it once. I find its easier to walk. Riding the bike up the hills just wasn't worth it. My two cents.

Aren't there campus buses?

i might bring my freeride mtn. bike...

Much easier to walk or use a bus. Use the bike for recreation and not necessarily for transportation. I did that for six weeks during a summer session and would be sweating pretty heavily by the end of the ride.

i'm bringing my bike, but i enjoy mountain biking, and i'll prob. join the cycling club. I figure i'll use the bike more than busses, as it's an easy way to stay in shape.

what do you ride gomestar?

i have a Schwinn Mesa GSD. This is it right here:

It's a sweet bike, i like it alot. My younger brother rides a Marin Bobcat trail, also sweet. His is a bit faster than mine is, but mine's more rugged, a bit easier on trails.

I brought mine and never used it once. Really, it's not worth it at all. Walking's easier, plus you get to walk with friends, or ride the bus with friends. It seems dangerous to ride a bike during the winter...

I bought a bike there and use it about 3 times a week... because my lab is far away from my living area. It depends heavily on your major and where your classes/lab is.

okay, no bike it is

and as for the people suggesting buses, there are two problems with them:

1) They are not always there when you need them
2) They require this little thing called money

Aren't campus buses free?

Cornell can't be THAT stingy...right?

"Cornell can't be THAT stingy...right?"

Welcome to Cornell

correct me if i'm wrong but the buses caost money right? i mean isn't the bus pass like 180 bucks?

it's not too expensive to ride a single ride, i think it's like $1.50 or something like that. The pass is only worth it if you plan to ride the bus every single day.

Wow that sucks. I mean, my old school and the most of the places I know about are free. Guess I'll be walking or driving. But I think driving would be a hassle since there really aren't a lot of parking spaces.

parking passes are like $625 a year on top of the limited parking spots. I'm bringing my bike, it has to be registered on campus, but that's one of the few things that's free at Cornell.
