I want to start a blog/photo gallery, but how?

Which program/website do you recommend for a beginner to start a blog mostly about photos. I don't know much about programming and scripting so it would be nice if it is easily customizable with preloaded graphics/themes.

Also what's the difference between a blog and a personal website?

thanks

There are lots of different blogging websites. Livejournal, insanejournal, deadjournal, blogspot, etc. Blogs are basically just journals. Often with these sites listed here, you can search for things which interest you and join communities to which you can also post entries. You can also “friend” other bloggers (kind of like friending someone on facebook). You can usually post a blog open, so anyone can see it, or you can “lock” it so only your friends can see it.
I usually see the difference between a blog and a personal website as being, one usually has their own domain name for a personal site, whereas a blog is usually hosted on some site or other (like the ones listed here). I know for livejournal, which I have, you can post pictures to albums contained there (up to a certain point, I don’t particularly like this though) and you can also copy in pictures posted elsewhere, such as photobucket or flickr, using html code (on photobucket, they have the code already there for you, you just have to copy and paste it into your blog).

I would recommend either blogspot, tumblr, or xanga.
If you’re just looking for a place to upload photos without much of a blog besides a sentence or two description, then you should use flickr.

Have you tried using Wordpress?

flickr is great for just photos and a caption. Livejournal is a great blogging experience.

The difference between a website and a blog is a website you have to add buttons and tables and links to various places i.e. a regular website. A blog is a personal journal that you can write entries on anything and you can view and comment on other people’s entries.

Wordpress is an easy way to blog, and you can add photos or what not. Live journal is something you can also try. I found xanga to be annoying, so I dropped it.

If you’re interested in learning more about html, then an easy-to-use program is Frontpage. You can play around with the appearance while the html is generated for you.

However, I agree with Kid in saying that maybe you should give Flickr a try. It’s a great community for photographers, kind of like Deviantart is for artists/photographers. You can probably find a zombie photo of me on Flickr that my friend photoshopped. I look scary. :)
