I want to study abroad in Canada, but......

I come from I come from a poor family. My parents try to give my siblings and I what we can, but sometimes we don't have the sufficient money.... Its always been a dream of mine to study abroad, but I know competition is fierce and that universities abroad prefer students with high marks and whom come from wealthy families that can afford for their education. To be honest, some days I feel its just dumb to be dreaming of studying abroad. (I'm from AZ in US, if that makes any much of a difference) I've also been told that asking the US or the country I want to study abroad in for financial assistance or a scholarship is quite hopeless, no matter how high the marks. Should I just give up on this goal of mine and instead go for a university in the U.S (outside of AZ) or continue on doing all that I can for this abroad dream of mine?
OR just not even bother continuing my studies at all.

Studying abroad is a useless fantasy for you considering your finances. UA and ASU are fine schools where you will likely get good financial aid.

Canadian or other international schools have no obligation to assist an American who could get a good education in the US.

ASU and UA both likely have opportunities to study abroad for a year of your program at a more reasonable price.

“Show me the money !” is what Canadian authorities want to see before permitting non-citizens to study in Canada. You must prove that you have adequate funds.

If you get financial aid at your home state university, that same aid usually would carry over for your year abroad, if it is a program through your school. So, say COA is $25,000 at ASU and you get $10k in grants. Study abroad would have a school determined COA and your grants would go with you.

It would not cost a lot more to do the study abroad, except for work study, travel home, and tourist adventures abroad
