i want to take a gap year!

hey y'all,

i got into penn CAS 2016 (yay)! anyway, during these last days of april, it's dawned on me that i want to take a gap year. i dont feel ready for college - i KNOW i have to work on my work ethic, responsibility, independence, etc, and would love to spend some time to brush up on my spanish or korean while volunteering with something in public health or teaching english.

is it too late to plan for a gap year now? i'm leaning away from the programs that cost as much college does, so i'm leaning toward working my way through the year or a really cheap program...or even a scholarship program, for that matter. the thing is, most applications for such programs are closed by now (i.e. rotary, etc).

i think for penn i have to decide and send an email by june. anyone know what i can do? could i email someone at penn and ask for his/her advice/help? i dont know if penn helps with pre-undergraduate gap years, but if penn does, i dont know who to contact! :/

I’d recommend that you contact your Regional Admissions Officer as soon as possible:

[Penn Admissions: Regional Admissions Officers](http://www.admissions.upenn.edu/current/regional.php)

You’re certainly not the first–or last–admitted applicant who wants to take a gap year, and the Admissions Office should be able to help you, or direct you to someone who can help–perhaps even a current Penn student who did the same thing. It’s in the Admissions Office’s interest to ensure that you’re happy about coming to Penn, and that you still want to come to Penn after taking a gap year.
