So I have tried going to my counselor and she said I cannot take courses at the local CC until I do every course in the area I am interesred in. For me to take Biology at the local CC I will have to take Biology 1, Human Biology, and AP Biology. I am only a freshman and I really do not want to wait that long. My classes are extremely boring. They only let freshman take 2 APs, Music Theory (which I do not have the musical experience for), and AP Government. I decided to steer clear of AP Gov because I believe our government is corrupt and money will be what leads to our demise. I have gotten into several arguments with this. I also go insane when I notice how much we are censored. WORST CHOICE I HAVE EVER MADE. Civcs is a BLOWOFF.
I think for 10th grade the 2 goes up to 4. I rejected APUSH because my counselor wouldn’t let me take all honors and AP classes. Also hate history with a burning passion because its so censored.
I really don’t know what to do. I want to take on more but the local CC won’t allow me to unless I through my high school. I will make the money for online AP classes if thats what it takes. CC is so much cheaper though.
What is good to take online?
Love my counselor, but I am annoyed. We have the most AP courses offered in the state (24) but we can hardley do any of them since we can’t sub AP’s for regular classes. (Ex to take AP Chem you have to take Chemistry). You can only sub in AP history classes.
What I am taking for next year is considered a lot (H Chem, H Algebra 2, H American Lit, Us History, Spanish 3, Human Biology, Engineering 1/2). I now have/had (Economics, Civics, H Geometry, English 9, Beginning programming, Health, Biology, Spanish 2, Art, PE). We are actually a high preforming district, one of the best in the state.
If I’m not mistaken (someone please correct me if I am wrong), you can take classes through the CC without your school’s approval. Yes, they wont go on your HS transcript, but when you apply to colleges you also submit a CC transcript as well. So, if your parents want to pay the money there is no reason why you cannot take some classes at the CC. Now, you will still have to do the classes required at your school, but you could also be what they call a con-current enrollment student.
I’m looking into K12. It seems that one can buy individual courses there. I am interested in World History, so I am looking into AP World History. That is also the 11th grade required history course, so I will get a job this summer, use the money for the course, take the AP test in May, and test out of World History in June. This looks like my best bet. Since World History is a requirement, would my school put the test on my transcript? It’d also be nice if they accepted the credit from K12, my school and K12 have the same accreditation.
You would have to confirm this with your GC first.
Take a summer class at the Community College to test the waters. If you get a good grade (B+ or more), you’ll have one more point to prove you can enroll even if you don’t exhaust your school’s offerings (which, I agree, is odd if it means taking every single class offered at your school, but isn’t if it only means “taking the pre-reqs at your HS”.
Check out the costs at Florida Virtual School, it’s accredited by the State of Florida and can even function as a complete high school for “homeschooled” students (who are considered “in school” if registered with FLVS).
What college courses do you want to take? If you haven’t exhausted your school’s offerings, you’re probably only qualified to take introductory courses that your school already offers through the AP program.
