I want to take Psych 2 but...

According to Advanced Placement Examinations,
"Note: Students who duplicate AP credit with course work may have their AP credit deducted from their transcript."

So does that mean that because I got a 5 on the AP Psych exam in high school, that I shouldn't take Psych 2? I mean, would I be able to get the 2.7 units from the exam and the 3 units from the course? (Psych 2 isn't a prereq for the major, but it is more or less an introductory course).

Basically, I don't want to take Psych 2 if it means that my AP score (and its associated 2.7 units) will be taken off of my transcript, that'd just be a waste of my time. And assuming that both would show up on my transcript, would grad schools care at all that it looks a little redundant? I'm genuinely interested in covering the material, most of which I forgot.

yea your AP score will be replaced, they don’t give you unit credit for both. Like I had ap chem unit credit but it is being replaced by whatever I got in chem1A.

are you doing psych for l&s breadth or engineering series or what? you can probably just use the units to cover the reqs and not even take it!!

Yeah, I wanted to do Psych 2 for L&S breadth.

Are you sure it would replace/conflict with my AP score? I mean, it’s Psych 1 that’s the prereq for the psychology major, not Psych 2. I feel like I’m being restricted for doing well on the AP exam! :(

You’re not being restricted for doing well on the AP exam, its just that they can’t give you double the credit for taking the same material twice. If I were you I’d take psych 2, or psych 1, I mean most people have way more than 120 units by the time they graduate, the fact that you’re “losing” 2.7 units is not a big deal.

yea it’s not about losing the units. if you want to take it, take it. if you want to use ap credit to have one less class to take for graduation, then skip it. lots of people take classes over for interest/learning even if they have AP credits.

AP exams dont matter anymore at this point in my opinion… id rather get that A in psych and boost up my GPA then keep that 5.

a lot of students actually end up taking their AP scores out because too many units could cause a registration block later on if you didnt declare yet.

AP units don’t count toward units for graduating, declaring, etc. but they can help you in telebears (getting to the next level)
