I want to transfer for Computer Science but I'm scared

I'm a late starter, going back to school at 24. I dropped out from high school as soon as I was legally old enough (was dealing with bullies and in general did not find school interesting after grade 5), got my GED, started working, and with some hard work made it through community college.
Despite my previous school performance, I excelled there because I applied myself and I found education much more interesting as I got older. Now I would like to transfer to a 4 year uni for Computer Science but I'm worried if the courses would be to hard for me. I don't have any programming experience other than doing lessons on Codecademy but the subject really interests me. I've been told by a few friends who are CS grads that I would make a good programmer (idk what this means though... lol) I'm just worried that I'll start and find it much, much too difficult.

Most of all I am worried about the math classes. The school I will be attending requires Calc 1 & 2, Probability and Statistics, Linear Algebra, and Discrete Mathematics.
I am only at a Algebra 2 level.
Don't get me wrong, I have a bull dog tenacity and I'm a quick learner. I don't hate math at all, I just wish I was better with it. I am not necessarily bad at math, I just did not pay enough attention in secondary school onward (excluding community college). I am the type of person that is stubborn, borderline ocd and will do whatever it takes until I am proficient in something and I don't mind having to retake a few classes if needed.

I'll be taking out a large amount of loans which is why I am scared. If I can't do the courses and have to change majors the debt could get crushing. My plan is to switch to Information Systems if I can't make it in cs.

I know it will be hard but should I even go for it? How hard was it for you? Anything else I should know?

Wouldn’t it be better to take your Calculus in Community College? If you do you can really figure out if you will be able to make it in CS or not. Also, you will not be piling up too much debt.

If you can get all of the math done at community college, and take some introductory CS courses there as well, you should have a better idea of how well prepared you are for CS, and probably at lower cost than going to a four year school now.

I’m going to get a lot of flak for this but… If you can pass all the math classes with C’s and stay in the program don’t be afraid to get a C. As soon as you get that credential your earning capacity will raise around 20,000$ dollars a year on average even if you decide not to work in computers and work in an office somewhere. I’m honestly surprised your school does not make you take Calculus 3 (I have heard it is killer). I am going to second @ucbalumnus on this one although I will suggest, if possible, take a no credit calculus class at the CC and see if you can handle it. Or try http://www.Khanacademy.com and sharpen your skills before you take the class.

good luck.
