I want to transfer to Rice after my freshman year, but I have a question....

Would credits from NYU look better to the AdCom than Baylor Honors College credits?

What do you mean? Do you mean for converting credits, or from an application standpoint. In either case, I'd say the actual classes are more important than the school they're from.

I mean just to transfer from either NYU or Baylor to Rice, which college's credits would give me the better in, so to speak. For the actual application, basically.

In other words, you're a HS senior now and you didn't get accepted to Rice, so you're deciding which school to attend next year that would give you a better chance of transferring into Rice? Is that what you're asking?

That's a terrible idea. Go to whatever school you got into. Enjoy it. Don't think of what could have been.

Susan: Yes, that's the case. That's my question.

NYSkins: It may seem that way to you but we aren't in the same situation. It's what I want to do. I don't like any of my other options so I'm going to do this. :)

But what if Rice doesn't accept you as a transfer? Then you're stuck at a school that you decided to go to just because you wanted to look good for Rice. I'm sorry, but I'm with NYSkins on this. Pick the school that you'd be happy at, whether for one year or four years. Who knows? You might like NYU or Baylor so much that you decide not to transfer.

Also, you will be miserable your first year of college because you will be looking for things to hate. If you go into a school assuming that you're going to transfer later, you're not going to enjoy yourself. Having the attitude that there is only one school for you is very unhealthy.

Rice is great and all, but there are other good schools out there. NYU and Baylor are two of them. Seriously, enjoy yourself at whatever school you go to. If you end up not liking it (which is unlikely), then maybe think about transferring. But don't do that to yourself now. I've seen some obsessive students on this site, but this is unbelievable.

Yikes. Forget I ever asked.

If you really don't like any of your options right now, you can always take a gap year then reapply to a whole new set of colleges next year.

Literaturegirl. My DS has friends attending a public U, who went into it knowing that they wanted to transfer. They have applied for a transfer now to their preferred public U, and I hope they will be accepted. In that case, the transfer is pretty much a numbers game and a sure-thing if they have those numbers. Rice won't be a sure thing--- but, if you have your heart set on transferring to Rice, go for it! Of the colleges you have been admitted to, go to the one that YOU like best, and go into it determined to study hard, make good friends and take advantage of all the wonderful opportunities that college can provide. You may decide that you love it there and decide to stay. You may decide that you want to transfer, and apply to do that, but please, give the college you start out at your best shot. Good luck!

Thanks anxiousmom. You're one of the few to answer my question without meanly judging me. I appreciate it! =)

I really don't think everyone was meanly judging you, literaturegirl; it may not have come across the best way, but I think they were generally concerned and want you to end up somewhere where you'll be happy.

I suppose that's possible. It's just a monstrously difficult situation to be put in.

A better way to ask it might be which school you would rather be at, assuming you don't make the cut as a transfer?

Yeah.... except NYU, which I would love, doesn't offer aid hardly at all unless you consider loans as aid, so it looks like the decision has already been made for me.
