I've heard that sometimes deferred ED students will hear BEFORE RD decisions come out... I was wondering if anyone knew if that was the case for Columbia? If not, when will RD decisions come out?

I was deferred ED too. I know that the official notification date for all the Ivies is March 31st but that would be pretty awesome if we heard earlier.

You both have a bit of an advantage – when visiting Columbia, I asked the adcom whether people who applied ED had any advantage in the RD pool and she said yes – they clearly want Columbia, but with the rest of the RD pool you couldn’t be sure.

I was deferred ED as well. Did any of you send update letters?

Someone should check the threads from a year ago to see when they were received. Maybe that’s posted somewhere?

I didn’t send an update letter because I didn’t really have any updates, but my GC went and talked to someone in admissions when he was in New York and my first semester GPA was my highest ever. I’m hoping they deferred me to see my first semester grades because my overall GPA was pretty crappy (3.74 UW) but everything else was really good imo.

i was also deferred. i think we pretty much hear the same time as regular. i did send an update, which i think is going to help a lot.

i THINK my college counselor sent a letter, but i can’t be sure. i DID send my first semester transcripts i believe

I sent an update letter. Good luck to all of us because we are all gonna need it!!

deferred students ED will find out the same time as other students. this has been columbia’s policy in the past and barring a change it will be so in the future.

good luck everyone!
