I see a lot of people on here have wrote letters....does it really make a difference....what should i say?

jaw,
I was accepted EA, but had a recent conversation with someone else who was deferred. They told me that their deferral notification said something to the effect of "please don't write to us about your deferral". Is that true? Because, if so, then I probably would suggest that you send in your mid-term grades, and perhaps a brief update with your senior activities, and maybe just one sentence about how Chapel Hill is still your number one choice of schools that you wish to attend. If you are going to have a chance, you need to send your senior activites list in anyway, so why not add just one harmless--maybe even helpful sentence about why you love UNC?

Stephen Farmer, the admissions director, appears to me to be very approachable. You know, and in view of their recent goof of sending acceptances notices to 2,700 kids who didn't really get in, they are in a position to be very forgiving.

Good luck, I really do think you should do something similar to what I have outlined above.

The sentence said additional rec letters aren't necessary, but didn't really say not to.

i sent in another (1 not 4)essay about

-how i wanted to go there my entire life
-how crushed i was that i wasn't accepted EA
-how it was actually kind of a big deal that i was deferred isntead of rejected OOS, since they barely accept anyone
-and an updated list of HS activities (placed 1st in regional history fair, went on to state for it, was stage manager for play, etc)

of course, i was waitlisted.

...but then i got in :)

My senior grades improved my GPA and my ACT went up one point since i applied so hopefully if i write a letter on top of these things i might get in. Thanks everyone
